livemusic Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Does anyone have any experience with this? Two things. 1. A big fear with owning a bassboat around here is hitting a log or stump that you can't see. We have lakes here with lots of timber. Anyone know if this can be covered by insurance? I read my policy best I could, lol, and it seemed to indicate that the lower unit is covered for catastrophic loss. But not the top end? I will have to read the dang thing carefully, word for word but, still, when you're done, you're still not sure what you got! 2. Major engine failure for whatever reason. I just had this happen to a 20 year old Merc 150. I fear it is toast. Do you think that you can get insurance to cover these two things? Top end and bottom end! For whatever reason! I suppose the motor on a bassboat is about half the cost of the rig! I bought a Progressive policy. EDIT: I now have a 2020 motor. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 My insurance is for collision with anything along with theft and vandalism. For the powerhead you would have to get an extended warranty but they wouldn’t cover a motor that old and they usually are pricey. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 29, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2021 Lower unit is typically covered from what I’ve heard and experienced myself. The policies I’ve seen cover “physical damage” like crashing into something......... fire, theft, all that jazz. Similar to your car, just read through the policy (which is so much fun) Quote
Deephaven Posted April 30, 2021 Posted April 30, 2021 Mine would cover both. The mechanical is $50/yr, lol. Already had 2 stern drives replaced. Buddy anchored my 30' Sundancer over some rocks and left the motors down. Both lower units were replaced. Need to be careful who you let use your stuff. Quote

I guess you could sink the destroyed motor and say it was stolen "Ya they stole my motor and they scratched up the bottom of my hull real bad somehow doin' it!" Quote
