I’m going fishing next Wednesday I see there’s a storm Monday does that effect fishing? If so in a good or bad way

Posted

It depends.  Way to many variables and your question is really vague.  Depends on the fish, location, and most importantly the fisherman/woman.  Over the years I heard there is bad, ok, good and gooder fishing before, during and after storms.  Sometimes the best fishing is between the 2nd and 3rd storm as the moon is nearing full but not quite full but not half either.

Get out there and just enjoy the experience.  You may or may not blank but you can control your attitude.

Thank you! I love Bass Resource because mostly all of the comments have been helpful and or make me feel confident!

Rained/stormed most of day yesterday, so I went fishing about 8pm. Panfish we’re jumping everywhere, like I coulda reached down and grabbed some on the bank. I brought buzzbait and jig...not a single bite.

Rule number 1 about fishing: there are no rules. You never know if fishing will be good or bad until you’ve fished. Even then you can report bad fishing and your neighbor can report great fishing

I generally do not fish the day after a storm.  In this case, the storm is supposed to be on Monday and you intend to fish on Wednesday, so its 2 days post-storm.

I prefer to fish before it hits because the pressure is changing.  Or during, if the storm isn't dangerous to be out in.

I don’t think it’s going to be a big storm where I live it lasts at most 2 hours but usually under an hour it’s a thunderstorm the weather says now storms are so small here it might even not storm

Safety is important here.  Lighting is very dangerous when you're on the water holding a graphite rod.  Wind gusts can also create problems too.  A light to moderate rain is perfectly fine, and often produces some good fishing.

I’m not talking about going out because it’s little I’m talking about it effecting fishing even if it’s little

Also the weather will be as of now 74 Degrees with a low of 58 usually stays on the high is that good fishing weather?

Any weather is good fishing weather. My two favorite times to fish are when it’s raining and when it’s not raining. Chew on that a minute

let’s say it’s not good fishing weather. Would you rather be at home pondering on whether or not the fishing is good or be fishing ? I think you must have missed rule number one about fishing

I tend to do better before the rains hit, and during the rain.  Less success after the rain. But there are exceptions.  There are times when the water rises quite a bit and is all muddied up I do well casting tight to shore.

Yesterday was a cloudy rainy day, I rode my bike to the lake to fish and guess what I did not even get a bite another time I fished in the same rainy conditions and did well. You never know until you go out and fish .

If your talking a hot summer's day thunderstorm then in my experience, it can be fantastic after the storm.

It cools the water as it's adding oxygen.

This time of year with water temps hovering in the 50's, a storm could actually cool the water and slow the bite.

It really depends on time of year and the magnitude of storm. Imo

Some of the best bass fishing I have every seen came after a summer afternoon thunderstorm in Lake Okeechobee.  Some of the worst storms were also there with 60+ mph winds, waterspouts and outrageous lightning strikes. We once had a club tournament at the north end of the lake where two club members were knocked down by lightning.  They were lucky not to be killed. Be careful out there.

Just go when you can go.  If I can go and I don't, I have major FOMO.  I'd rather go and skunk it up than not go and wonder.  You can learn a lot even when you aren't catching.  Always note the conditions each time out, whether it be in your noggin, on paper, or on your phone.  After a while, you may start putting together the pieces regarding when and where you should fish depending on current conditions.  Get yourself a pool thermometer to measure water temperature.  The air temperature matters little to the fish. Just go, buddy!

You just never know.  I have had days when a thunderstorm moved through and shut everything down.  I've had other experiences where the fish were biting before and then after a thunderstorm.  Generally speaking, I like fishing in overcast, rainy.  Storm on Monday, fishing on Wednesday- I would be more concerned if it was a big cold front.  I've always heard the 2nd day after the cold front is the worst and then it gets better on the 3rd day.

You can have that even when you and your neighbor are casting to the same hump using just about the same lure off the same rod and reel.

I cannot overstate how fickle and bloody-minded fish are.

Check to see if a cold front with high pressure is following the storm on Wednesday. Cold front is actually behind or follows the low pressure rain front. High pressure usually has wind with blue bird sky. Bass react negatively to bright sun light immediately after cloudy rainy conditions.

You chances of catching bass are better when fishing.

Fishing during a storm is awesome , as long as there’s no lightning and strong winds.  After a storm usually the fishing sucks.

If it storms on a Monday, I would wager Tuesday is going to be a tough day but come Wednesday the bite should be picking up again.

Fishing before the storm is usually pretty good.

You will learn a LOT more about fishing when you actually go fishing as opposed to asking about it on the internet. The internet is an amazing resource, but there is NOTHING that can compare to personal experience on the water. Fish as much as you can and pay attention to what is working and what isn't.

Rule #517: If you have a chance to go fishing - go. Experience is much more productive than reading about it.

We should make it the unofficial motto of BR.
