ThatZX14Fella Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 My nephew and I were catfishing, and after he'd lost my last dip bait hook, I tied on a Ned rig for him. He fished it for a bit, and I just so happened to look over to see his line going side to side. I told him to set the hook...twice. I had to give him a visual to get it across. He ended up hooking into a three pound bass, way larger than any bass he'd caught before. He got it up to the bank and the line broke. I went into the water after it, but was not successful in the retrieval. He hasn't stopped talking about it since. He's nine years old and loves to fish. Hopefully I can get him on something larger soon. Other than that, the only action we had was about a ten inch channel catfish. 3 Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 You now have a fishing companion for life. If there is anything I enjoy doing more than fishing, it's getting a youngster hooked on fishing. BTW, did you tie on another Ned for him and one for yourself? Quote
Super User Bird Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 When I was 9, braid was non existent and line breakage was common but the desire to fish never ceased. Introduce your companion to braid. Quote

Unfortunately, it was nearing his bedtime and we had to leave. I felt bad for leaving on that, but there will be fish there when we come back. 5 minutes ago, Bird said: When I was 9, braid was non existent and line breakage was common but the desire to fish never ceased. Introduce your companion to braid. I'm planning to get him some before this weekend. Him, my brother-in-law, and I have a camping trip scheduled for Saturday. Hopefully he hooks into something bigger. Quote
Fishlegs Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Hopefully he’ll land the next one. Keep on trying. Quote

In an age of video games and garbage television, what better gift can you give a young boy or girl? Take a kid hunting or fishing. Or just teach them about the outdoors and to enjoy nature. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 2, 2021 Super User Posted May 2, 2021 He's hooked. May the two of you have a lot of good trips together. Quote
