Super User MN Fisher Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 Rule #1: Fishermen lie. Numbers, size, what they're using to catch them...don't believe words...seeing is believing. 1 Quote

Try telling them you're trying to learn and any advice would be appreciated. It's a fine line to walk. Don't ask for specific baits or spots, just ask for help and let them offer what they're comfortable offering. Some people will give you nothing, some folks might even toss you a bait or two that has been working to try, but they'd know a whole lot better what you should be doing that we would. 2 Quote

I will tell someone exactly how many I have caught, where I caught them and what I caught them on. When my buddy is with me, he gets really upset. I just tell him, they probably didn't believe a word I said. 4 Quote

I've watched the guy in the back of my boat that's watching what I'm doing and how I'm catching them, try to fish the same bait as me too many times and struggle to get bit to be worried about someone on a different part of the lake trying to do the same thing I'm doing. Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 Wish I had a dollar for every roboworm and senko that I've given to new fisherman. Best you can do is tell them how to fish a given bait, but it's up to them to put in the time to get good at it. To the OP, bass will sometimes not bite the same bait over and over, same goes for the retrieve, ect. Keep at it. 2 Quote

Skunkmaster-k Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 The first two years I tried bass fishing everybody told me that the algae bloom had killed all the bass in my home lake. Even the game warden told me to fish for walleye. My confidence was at zero, but I kept trying. Eventually I had a long conversation with an elderly fisherman and he sent me to the exact spot where I got my first bass . Since then I have come to find that the old timers are usually dialed in and will help you out if you are struggling. Quote
