Cops, Sheriffs, Deputy's, any LEO

THANK YOU!!!!! I have made it a habit to pay for any LEO I see eating at an establishment. I encourage anyone so willing to do so as well. These people protect us and put their life on the line every time they put the badge on. I want them to know they are appreciated. I have a couple good friends that are in law enforcement and I feel for them and the current climate of the country. You have my support 100%!!!!!!!

 

I feel comfortable sharing this here because this forum is full of people who were taught respect for authority.

I Have L.E.O.'s in my family...it's becoming an even more thankless job. I'm glad someone still wants to do it!

I have some retired LEO's in my family and a number of friends who are local PD, sheriff deputies, or CHP. Fortunately we're in a part of CA where they're very respected and appreciated... can't even imagine what it would be like for the ones who work in the big cities.

We are very much Pro Law Enforcement. My wife and I volunteer at our local LAPD station, we raise money to help pay for things the Government of Calif. see's these things as not needed, we raised enough money to pay for an extended parking lot for example.

Holidays all the folks at the station get some very good grub, cards, and mementos to try and show our appreciation for what they do and sacrifice. 

 

If I may, I would like to include all the FireFighters too.

About a year ago Mrs Mike and I added every “LEO” along with every active duty military person.

About 3 weeks ago there was a County Sheriff's K9 Unit SUV two spots behind me at the drive through.  I paid for their meal, and had an extra plain hamburger (no bun) added to the meal for the dog too.  It made me feel good.  I've had random people pay for my meals or coffee at a drive through before so why not do it for this officer?

 

Believe me, nowhere else in this country has this subject been so controversial than here in MN the past year.  Some of the rhetoric against law enforcement is downright despicable.  I am pro law enforcement.  But, I will add that there does need to be some reform and officers should be held accountable for their actions too.  I think that happened a week ago with a guilty verdict right here in Minneapolis.

I can honestly say that the kind gestures, cards, and other shows of appreciation mean more to all first responders than you’ll ever know and that goes for dispatchers!  Twenty five years of wearing the badge took a toll on me and I pray for all those serving every day.  Enough said. Thanks JB.

@Columbia Craw I too am a first responder. Although I am just a "volunteer" firefighter I have seen more than I wish I had ever seen. Wrecks, drownings, house fires, etc. can take a toll on a person. God bless you man. I have the upmost respect for anyone that chooses to protect and serve.

 

I don't know by name who all has served or continues to serve on this forum, but I wish I could name them. Those like @Bluebasser86 are in my thoughts as I only hope he makes it home safely every day.

No, and definitely not because it is dangerous. For example the job of being a logger is much more dangerous, as are many other jobs.

 

I have never had issues with LEOs, but I know others who have. 

 

I have no special love or hate for law enforcement. They are just people, some flawed some not.

I know of a lot of places in my neck of the woods that let them eat free if they are in uniform.  

It's just too bad they can't form and united slow down and do basically nothing for a week and let those that think we don't need them see otherwise.

OK. I've had more than one job where a single lapse in concentration and awareness could change everything forever, or even kill me in a flash. None of that comes close to the stress of each encounter with a stranger possibly leading to my death, or maiming me. I've never had to worry about being shot, stabbed, purposely ran over, hit in the head with bricks, or spit on, and the list goes on. What might happen to me at any given moment is on me, and I'm not stressed a bit. For them It's a different type and level of danger. God bless anyone who walks into that life with eyes wide open, and to then have the stomach to endure it every single day.

We have a little family owned restaurant that provides me with my prefishing steak biscuits a couple times a week. If I spot a first responder inside as I got thru the drive thru I get the waitress to grab me his/her ticket and I'll pay for it and the tip. Happens often enough that one deputy sheriff (I went to HS with)came out the back door and approached me and ask me to stop. I laughed and told him to make me and speed off with my boat in tow.

My county had the civil service test for the county sheriffs a month ago. I had full intentions of taking it as it’s something I wanted to do even with the way the world is towards them today. Talked with a county sheriff about it while I was at work selling him a gun since I worked at the gun counter at a local sporting goods store. 
 

I never took the test because I couldn’t pass the physical part because of my accident 2 years ago. Running and the plate holding my pelvis together don’t mix. 
 

from what I read they had record low turn out need I think 5 new sheriffs for the county and every town with a force is looking for 2-3 new also. I think I saw and heard only like 9 applied for the test. On all the local FB news pages about it there was a ton of hate for it people saying it’s not worth it knowing no one likes the police and blah blah blah. 
 

If they offer another test I may look into it again see if there’s a profile or something like the military has for PT since I can’t run but the rest the test I could pass easily.

Hey man, it takes a village!!! They have plenty of work to do that doesn’t require running. IT, dispatch, accounting, maintenance, etc

I have 2 grandchildren in the police department in Springfield, MO.  My granddaughter is second shift patrol and major accidents.  My grandson is a SWAT sniper on call 24/7 as well as a full week’s work.  He can’t be more than 30 minutes away from the office at any time for rapid response.

Rough one today. My neighbor across the street’s wife died from Covid at the end of January. He was tearful telling me, my wife and next door neighbor the story today. He’s a retired police officer. Said he didn’t think he would’ve made it through those first few weeks if he didn’t get calls from a bunch of other people he had worked with over the years. He said people were calling him from way back on his first assignments going back like 50 years ago. Said it really helped.
