AmmoGuy Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I just got in another TTU711HFB, and it has quite a bit more build up/epoxy around the guides and wraps than any of my other Tatula rods. All my other Tats have nice flat epoxy, but this one has the "football" shape on every guide. With no reel on the rods, it actually even moves the balance point a little further down the rod than my previous TTU711HFB. It's obviously something that most buyers wouldn't even notice or care about, but it caught my eye immediately. I checked with Daiwa just for the fun of it, and they basically gave the generic "If you feel that it affects the rods performance, you can send it to our warranty department for inspection". So... forget about it and fish? Or send it back to Daiwa? Quote
Super User Bankc Posted April 27, 2021 Super User Posted April 27, 2021 I'd fish it without a second thought. 3 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 27, 2021 Super User Posted April 27, 2021 Man, I don't know, all that extra weight is sure to be hard on the wrists. 5 Quote
throttleplate Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 when buyng rods in person i purposely picked the rod with the most built up epoxy around the guides. 3 Quote
jbrew73 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I’d be more concerned on how tightly the wraps are wound. 1 Quote
UNC1078 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Did you buy it brick and mortar, or online? If from a physical store, I would just go exchange it if you haven't used it. Otherwise, not worth dealing with sending it back, imo. Quote

garroyo130 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 "If you feel that it affects the rods performance, you can send it to our warranty department for inspection". Well that isnt very reassuring. If I were Daiwa I would return it as-is and bill you for shipping ... 1 Quote
ErieCan Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I have three Tatulas and they all look like the flat one of the two. I have a St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'4" and it's guide wraps look rounded like the other one in your pics. Honestly, I doubt it's going to make a difference. Quote

I don't doubt that the balance varies from rod to rod, but extra weight above the fulcrum will move the balance point up, not down. 1 Quote

Potato Potahto I guess. The rod with the extra epoxy balances almost 2” closer to the tip. I wouldn’t have guess it would make that much difference, but I guess it does. Quote

Now I gotta check my rods now. haha. Well I have 4 other Tatula rods. They are all identical as far as fit and finish. That’s why this new one caught my eye. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted April 28, 2021 Super User Posted April 28, 2021 Send it back. Now that you have noticed, it's going to be impossible to not stare at the guides every time it's in your hands. 1 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 Football shaped guides are technically imperfect but far from a defect. Excess epoxy does affect a blank to a degree but the difference balance point is likely due to a combination of factors and variance in blank construction, grip location, seat arbors etc. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see difference between visually identical rods. Balance point is way over emphasized anyway. 2 Quote

Touché. when i looked at a bunch of the same rods i was not even looking for an epoxy build up, never even thought that was a thing. When i was making sure all the guides were not bent i noticed that some rods had more thicker guide support and then i got to lookin at the wrap and finish in the light given off from the stores florescent lights and thought the rod with the best looking finish also had the thicker guides. From what i know about rod building which is nothing more than watching you-tube video on how a rod is made i see that a human is actually applying the epoxy around the guides. Quote
waymont Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 Keep that rod and enjoy it. That is such a minor difference. Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 After catching your first fish with this rod, you'll forget about the whole thing. Or, you'll wish your old rod was like the "new improved" version! Karl 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 That's just aweful. Glad my Zodias rods don't have fat expoxy.? Quote
EWREX Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 as larry the enticer would say.. "sometimes you just gotta send it!" Quote
Fishnski48 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Put it on a "fish" diet and maybe it will lose some of that extra weight 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 I haven't seen this with any of my Tatula rods, but it may look ugly, but those guides aren't going anywhere anytime soon at least. Quote
