Local pond fishing

I go to this pond in the spring through fall to fish for largemouths (late summer and fall hard to fish because of extreme weeds) and I always have success with a spinnerbait, But the problem is that as the summer goes on I catch less in the 3-4 range and a big one for july is like 2.5, does anyone know why the bigger ones wont hit in mid summer? I mean I know that without eggs the 4 lbers are like 3.7-3.8s but still I dont get any of those after the spawn. Do the big girls go down deep or something, because I cant find them even though the pond is about 250 ft x 100 ft and its a rectangle, the max depth is 8 feet throughout and the banks slowly decline. there is a hump in the middle with a depth of 5-6 feet. So its weird that I cant find them. And then come mid july you cant fish submurged lures because the weeds LITERALLY cover the whole pond top to bottom with no openings. I have tried to fish a frog there for like 5 days all different conditions and times and have only got like 2 frog fish to hit topwater. And the crazy part is its not an overfished pond. Any advice for how to get the big ones post spawn, or how to get a few fish in the intimidating weeds?

I would be surprised if it's as thick under the mat as it looks from above it.

 

I would be further surprised if there weren't pockets that weren't as thick, and that you'd have a good chance of finding the big(ger for this particular pond) fish sticking close to or under the mat edges at these pockets.

 

With a 1oz bullet weight and an appropriately streamlined soft plastic that doesn't slow your fall down (either by friction against the vegetation or by just being so big and floppy that it acts like a parachute), I'd just about bet you're gonna get through the mat where you wanna be.

Big'uns will lay in the weeds and conserve their energy when the water gets hot, grabbing a meal when it swims by, rather than chasing.

Get a paddle and along the bank use the paddle to make an opening in the grass at a few places.

 

Make the area as wide and deep as you can without falling in the pond.

 

Wait an hour or two or come back the next day and flip your plastic into the areas you cleared out along the bank.

P.S.  If it is safe and you have a friend with you, wade out into the pond about 4 to 5 feet from the bank and clear out the area. But only if you have a friend and a rope with you or tied to you. You may want to wear a PFD, too just to be safe.  You never know where the "holes" are in a pond's bottom.
