Tail Slap Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 Oh I like that. I need to stop talking to you. My bank account is going in the wrong direction lol That is what I was thinking. I like the 2500 shallow when looking for light lure long casts as I think the larger spool diameter helps especially matched to the rod stripper guide and a flexible tip.. Either with a nice balanced double handle. But for the UL it's hard to beat a the jdm 1000S, or so I thought!?! I did not know they made a Stradic FL C1000S. But sure enough it shows on a AU shop. What is its body a 750? How much smaller is it body compared to a standard 1k? That sounds about perfect for creeks streams etc. for trout Gills etc. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 8, 2021 Super User Posted May 8, 2021 The Stradic FL1000 is the JDM C2000SHG. The JDM C1000S is the same reel body, low-gear, same stroke, slightly smaller spool dia. https://www.jpfishingtacklenews.com/shimano-stradic-19/ For your pocketbook, don't ask me about salt finesse rods, which we fish a gang for change-up at Arroyo. I have four including a pair that have fished a dozen years - these two are newer. Both of these rods have landed doubles including snook and redfish. This Korean model is Very good and very cost-effective - Fuji guides, even The ebay seller Autter is also very reliable NS Black Hole Dark Horse Rockfish UL 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 Ok thought I was going crazy trying to find the C version. Then I saw the only one here https://fishingproshop.co.za/product/shimano-stradic-c1000-hg-fl/ But looking at the weight I saw it was the same as the 1000S. Wow that nanoflex looks like a high end japan trout rod. What about t$500-$600? Bit $$ but I can understand it when you get into high perf UUL rods. I swear I think I have seen them flex past 180°. The NS Black Hole Rockfish gen 2 the lightest lure rating down to 0.3-0.5 grams lol. That means you could probably cast empty 2-4lb fluoro with no lure. I like the looks of the s 7'3" solid tip version. I like they are 2 piece. What species do you go after with that setup.....nanoflex & c1000S? Trying to picture hooking into a snook with that setup. Trout OK although some of these large east coast rainbows get huge sometimes 5+ lbs and that not the huge lake trout of course. This is a creek not too far from me. That's not me in the pic btw. 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 Have family slung from Houston Galveston thru to San Antonio. I've done a fair amount of fishing from Rock Port to the Padres and Corpus. Lots of wade fishing back bays for reds and trout etc. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 8, 2021 Super User Posted May 8, 2021 (edited) I'm going to be kayaking Estes flats this coming Thursday. Here was a remarkable trip the day the freeze ended in Feb. Paid our dues getting across the flat to the tide pass, then released 45 redfish. Little Cut, Estes Flats, TX 2/20/21 - Other Fish Species - Bass Fishing Forums (bassresource.com) Hitting a duplicate tide on Thurs, though higher MWL. The TZ Nano is YB's flagship rockfish, and it was $400 and change. The newer Blue Current III is very good mid-priced rod, but tough to find stock. Plat will put you on a notification if you need one. I have the BC3 82/B for my first BFS salt, and taking that out Thursday. Here was one of my first two dozen-year rockfish, both made by Takamiya, an XUL and UL. My buddy Lou has a Major Craft solid tip, and I've seen him reel it up to where the tip and first guide mated - many more times than once. @Tail Slap PS - though a much better all-around rod, the Dark Horse Rockfish ST isn't near that flexible - another friend broke the tip on his. But you won't be disappointed, it's a jewel rod for $100 and change. Edited May 8, 2021 by bulldog1935 below Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 That is sweet. Looked like a hard time in the cold but fish'n is still fish'n! That was a really nice fly rod to give as a gift. I had a really nice Sage. One of the older ones that were really well made. It was a sad day when it got stolen. My uncle and I helped release I forget how many thousands of reds down at Rockport when they had that huge drop off in the late 80s.. I think I will pu a 1000s spool and may start with one of those solid tip black hole rockfish rods. Double it up to use on both fw&sw trout. Try some other back bay fishing with it would sure make it more exciting. Add the extra Stella bearings and a cf double handle. That should make for a good time. lol tech with that handle I'll have 2 more bearings. Add another rod but in casting and I have an excuse to snag a morethan pe1000tw. The only thing that has held me off is I want the brass hypergears but they only come on the 8.6 ratio and I would prefer 29" of the 7.1 vs 35" retrieve rate. Wish it had a set of brass in that ratio available thru another reel. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 9, 2021 Super User Posted May 9, 2021 NS Black Hole makes some high-grade rods, and their US rep only imports their offshore stuff. IRT imports their high grade rods to sell in combos with their benchmade spinning reels. Really, the only corner they cut on this rod is not sanding the blank - it has bare scrim wrap - it also has Fuji guides. I have a few photos of my Dark Horse Rockfish UL, though here it's matched with my Vanquish. I was queasy about taking the Vanquish out on the kayak, though I did it once, later picked up the Stradic C2000SHG to match with this rod. Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 9, 2021 Author Posted May 9, 2021 Thanks for the info. The vanquish actually looks very good matched with it. Then again it would suck if it went went for a dive....eek. I can not find much on the net about them but they seem like a very well put together rod for the price . I think I am going to pick the lightest one to match with the Str FL 1000S 5.1 gears. Not that it's important but I like rods that are not the super popular brands that everyone is use to seeing. Will likely pu a C2k spool for if I want more capacity/thicker line. It's not a huge investment and looks to be a solid rod with attention paid in assembley from the pics you posted and what I could see from those FB videos that one guy has up. Personally I do not mind the blank left in the rough. Gives it a different two tone look. Out of curiosity, what brand and lb line do you prefer using on these UL setups? I seem to have gravitated to braid + mono/fluoro leader. I like to try different lines especially when using lighter lb as I find that's when small differences have increased impact. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 9, 2021 Super User Posted May 9, 2021 I use 6-lb Sufix 832 to 12- and 14-lb X-braid (PE#0.5 and #0.6 Duel or YGK). The nice thing about the Rockfish UL 802L, it's good to 10-lb line (nominal PE#1), and I use 10-lb Seaguar Blue for leader. This is my salt BFS with PE#0.8, 16-lb Duel X-Wire, and 10-lb Blue leader. Since I'm in the salt with toothy fish, I also add now hard-to-get Mako titanium micro wire traces, 8-lb (from Ukraine, but no longer posting to USA). A good Allbright knot will zing through microguides. The Vanquish looks even nicer with the YB TZ Nano - I keep both these off my kayak, strictly for Arroyo dock fishing now, where this rod out-casts every other by 30%. 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 10, 2021 Author Posted May 10, 2021 Wow your not kidding that vanquish looks great with the Nano. Its so subtle in color scheme but at the same time looks high end and classy. I like it. 30% cast distance is HUGE at that level. The "Mako titanium micro wire traces". Are they thinner than the Mako titanium 8lb wire ? https://makofishing.com/leaders-titan/mako-titanium-leaders-test-35-kg/ I was using j-braid grand for light lb braid but have had issues with it. Break offs and fluffing. I liked it initially. So moving on. On the spools of the long spool reels take the 1000 body is the only difference in the spool its barrel diameter or depth? Be it 1000 C2000 or C2500 series they all obviously have the same stroke but flanges are the same diameter and thickness as well? I ask as there sure seems like a lot of various spool capacities especially in the S-27 size. I counted 6 some fairly close looking at p.e. # capacity. At p.e.#0.6 a spread from 60m - 335m 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 10, 2021 Super User Posted May 10, 2021 that's the stuff - here shown next to a 60-lb swivel. The website will take you right up to payment, then tell you they have no payment option for you. For some reason, they stopped posting to USA. No one else in the world makes a titanium wire leader this good or this small - this one is 13-lb test. Based on this chart, plus, I have C1000 and C2000 in hand, C1000 is slightly smaller spool flange (working diameter), C2000 and C2500 are the same slight step up in diameter. Again, C1000, C2000 and C2500 are all the same reel with different S-27 spools that will interchange. 2500 is a bigger spool diameter (and stroke) than C2000 and C2500, because for the same gear ratio, it's a jump in retrieve rate. The weight also shows it steps up to the mid-size body of the C3000. A bit of a tedious website, but best prices on YGK braid - only order from stock - "preorder" will put your money in limbo until they restore stock FishingShopKiwi (this link mixes braid and fluoro) I can strongly recommend YGK, which I fish from Oltollos Finesse braid to Oddport in the surf. I have Castman on my offshore topwater spinner, and really like it. YGK X-braid Upgrade is the benchmark braid. Generally, I like YGK lines better on spinning reels, and Duel lines better on baitcasters. Duel coatings seem harder. With either braid, I like the dense, fine-fiber X8 lines. Japan Tackle also carries YGK, and Jun there has better English than you'll find in most of Japan. JT is also great for baitcaster tuning parts and lures. Plat is a great place to order repair parts, lures, also Duel lines. May also find Duel stock at Asian Portal, but a very tedious website to find stock - but the really good thing with AP, if you can put together an order slightly over $100, you get free courier express. Any time you're ordering from Japan, you usually load up a cart to make the courier shipping cost worth your while. A good reference for PE# line diameters (and X-braid test) A great online calculator for spool capacity This also links to the Advanced calculator for stacking lines of different diameter. The Jackson plug is only for bottom-bouncing and making mudballs - all of these lures, I had to swap to salt hooks. The spoon stinger hooks are Vanfook. Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 10, 2021 Author Posted May 10, 2021 Wow that is one thin wire. Ideal for toothy fish. Never seen it that thin before. For the MTCW titanium line roller which they are certainly proud of that roller $70-80 ouch x 4, do I need to order the seals and bearing as well These $200 reels with stella bearings, double handles, and knobs are turning into $400 reels lol. This works out just like my shotguns and 1911s and well most all my guns LOL Just wanted to confirm on the spools as it just seemed odd to have so many spools so close in size. Example: using that pe 0.6 line size the 1000SS hold about 70m and the C2000SS holds about 80m. I guess I had a bit too much time on my hands as its been cold & raining here for the last 3 days. I ended up listing them with capacities. It's weird the way Shimano chose to size them. I would have expected main size 1000 C2000 C2500 to be in capacity order then broken down in each spool sub group Reg, S, SS. Instead it's the otherway. As the 1000 is the only standard depth spool it actually has the highest capacity. Doubt many people looking at reels would expect the Stradic 1000 to have 140m /60-70% more line capacity than the C2500S Vanford Vanquish or Stella. 1000 Body: 1000 PE# 0.8-240, 1-190 Stradic FL 19 0.6-335 1000S PE# 0.6-140, 0.8-100, 1-70 Stradic FL 19 0.6-140 1000SS PE# 0.3-120, 0.4-90 Vanquish 19 0.6-70 C2000S PE# 0.6-150, 0.8-110, 1-80 Stradic FL 19 0.6-150 C2000SS PE# 0.3-140, 0.4-100 , 0.6-80 Vanquish 19 0.6-80 C2500S PE# 0.6-200, 0.8-150, 1-120 Vanquish 19 0.6-200 The 1000SS would sure save on spooling LOL The depth must be 1/4". Added the Stradic FL 1000SHG reel and the c2000SS Vanquish spool and a 2500S FL for the C3000 reels to my upgrade parts order. Oh and I think I will get that black hole rod. I really like the look of it especially for the $. I wouldn't have thought it but I may end up with 2 each of these 1000 & 2500 reels. Now that the dealers have the new Vanford spools they are a lower price option to the Vanquish Stella spools for sizes not in the StradicFL. 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 10, 2021 Author Posted May 10, 2021 Thanks for info on YGK. I will pu some to try out. While it's stupidly $$ I have heard very good things about the performance of Gozen W16 Braid. It's one of those super braids 16 strand and seems to have some very cool and long lasting durable properties. It's 20lb is the thickness of most 8-12lb 8 strand. Very limited vendors. I may pu a150m roll which costs more than that line roller. To be worth it will have to last a few yrs of daily/weekly fishing trips. At least I live right next to a lake lol 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 10, 2021 Super User Posted May 10, 2021 (edited) You can always fish through your current line roller and upgrade when they Will need it. Or try one now and see what you think. @Tail Slap The MTCW comes with everything you need, including a great pair of bearings No seals are needed, or even wanted. The only time you really need seals is fishing the surf, because of sand slurry. Shimano uses them because of brass MOC. When you install, look closely at the shim stack order on the package diagram - they're different thickness for each position. The tricky thing on Shimano line roller installation is keeping the sex bolt female seated in the square boss in the bail. Edited May 10, 2021 by bulldog1935 install 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 10, 2021 Author Posted May 10, 2021 Yep that's a good idea. I will pu one. Do they fit the 1k stradics? Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 10, 2021 Super User Posted May 10, 2021 Shimano's line roller is the same for Stradic to Stella, all 5000 down. If you look closely at the reel photos I posted, every one has MTCW roller. 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 10, 2021 Author Posted May 10, 2021 Oops your right. I focused on the one close up. They just mention med size and o ly show the 2500 as the smallest. Should have thought to look at the stradic part number as well.duh. The YGK looks good. Very good diameter for lb rating. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 The size 3000 is a better choice for bass fishing. Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 11, 2021 Author Posted May 11, 2021 2 hours ago, soflabasser said: The size 3000 is a better choice for bass fishing. Yeh this is actually for trout stream and creek and ul backbay. You would be surprised what those little 1k Stradics can handle. I do have a C3k and am picking up another. Bulldog I was helping me thru the various compatible spools and various upgrades. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 I have caught fish over 25 pounds on size 1000 spinning reels so these reels can land fish bigger than bass but I rather fish with a larger spinning reel for several reasons. It is easier to cast further with a larger spinning reel which makes it easier to cover water. A larger spinning reel has more line capacity which is something I need since I fish in waters that have tarpon, snook, and other powerful gamefish. Also I like to release big bass as quick as possible, larger spinning reels with stronger line helps accomplish this well. With that said fish whichever way is best for you and that makes you happy. Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 11, 2021 Super User Posted May 11, 2021 part of what we were discussing is that, with braid, big reels have too much line capacity, unless you buy the shallow spools that fit them for back-up. This is my 4000 inshore reel, with a Yumeya spool that's made for 200 m PE#1.5 braid. The stock deep spool fits 200 m PE#2 braid, and the deeper 5000 spool fits 200m PE#3 braid - 60-lb For the US market, Shimano imports 5 reel sizes based on 3 bodies and no gear-ratio options. In Japan Domestic Market, the same 3 reel bodies are offered in 13 different versions with different gear ratios, spool diameters, and spool depths. 1 Quote
Tail Slap Posted May 13, 2021 Author Posted May 13, 2021 I have never understood as big as the higher reels have become in the USA, for both Shimano and Daiwa, why they choose to keep our market choice strapped. Sport fishing in the US is a $115Billion ecosystem fed by 65-70 million anglers. Japan's total number of anglers @200k does not even equal 0.5% of US consumer. Bass fishing in Japan has been on the decline for several years and is not even considered sporting by many there; not to mention large small mouth have been placed on the evasive list there. We have more high end equipment anglers then Japan has sport anglers in total. Then again we are willing to order from Japanese vendors which keeps cash flow and profit in their local economy and they lose the overhead of warranty repairs. We likely double their JDM sales Of those 13 configuration in 3 sizes in just 2 sizes 1000 and 2500 bodies you have 6 and 5 different spool configuration respectively. This indicates where the focus is in their local market. 1 Quote
John E Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Hi. I've also noticed that the Stradic models 2500 and 3000 have different gear ratios. At least that's what I'm seeing at Bass Pro and Tackle Warehouse. On another note. Any thoughts regarding reel gear ratios? I have a Stradic 2500 FM with a ratio of 5.8:1 (34" IPT). I use it mostly with Fluke style baits and some light worming where I do a lot of my action with rod twitching. I'm finding it a challenge to get the slack in timely and missing fish. I see that the Stradic 3000 FM has a higher gear ration of 6.4:1 (37" IPT) and was wondering if this would make much of a difference? Thanks. Quote
