Most of my really great deals have come on fly rods and fly fishing gear. I got a 4 wt. Sage Z-Axis at half off when the Sage One's came out and later got an 8 wt. One and 5 wt. One at half off. Then one day looking around at fly rods at Cabela's, they had a 7 wt. Sage Bolt for half off. $650 rod for $325, I'll take it. Got to the register and it rang up for $149! Haven't been that lucky with conventional fishing gear.

My first Shimano Crucial rod was purchased more by accident than on purpose!

I was browsing the aisles at our local K-Mart back when they had a decent tackle section. I noticed a little sales girl grab 4-5 rods & started marking them down. The last rod was a 5' 6" medium heavy fast Shimano Crucial & marked it $24.99!

I picked it up walked to the register & paid for it!

I got a St Croix Avid out of the Bargain Cave at Cabela's for $20 when it first opened in KC. Still have that rod almost 20 years later.

Not too long ago, I stopped at a yard sale.... got spinning reels $5.00 ea., shimano syncopate & pflueger president. Never had line on them, said “they were a present but he didn’t fish”. He also said “had the rods that came with them, but shut the garage door on them yesterday”

I thought to myself.... I understand shutting the door on the rods and breaking them, but don’t fish.........

I was able to get 35 bags of Z Man Ticklerz at a garage sale for $20.00. There were 17 different colors, most were 2 bags of the same things and only one bag had one missing.

My son has gotten several used in good condition Fury's from me as I've upgraded to Sierra's and Kaden's. He's making out like a bandit.

I was in Walmart several years ago as they were making down clearance items.  They marked a pack of Strike King tungsten work weights down to $1.00.  I stood there and waited while she marked all 25 packs down and took every one.

Got a G Loomis MBR 842C GLX brand new for $200.

I seldom paid MSRP for my fishing gear, but I think the most discounted deal (not the best gears) I got is during Thanksgiving 2019. Apparently, Pure Fishing made a mistake: they marked all those gears that were intended for 50% off as $50 a piece, which includes all their brands like Abu, Fenwick, Penn...   They corrected that mistake within hours, but not before I grabbed 5 rods and 2 reels, $350 for MSRP $2,100 worth of gears.  They shipped them all out to me as usual, so I must give them credit for keeping their words.

I don't remember if its the best ever, but I am really stoked about it right now. I just bought a NIB 6:1 OG Zillion for $200 and it's companion, a mint in the box 7:1 OG Zillion for $150. My luck is on a roll. It was only last month when I scored a never used SV103 for $175. (minus spool and handle)

At the start of COVID when dobyns rods were on sale for 40% off I couldn't pass it up. I scraped up the cash to snag some champion series including an 807 and 867 swimbait rods cause I knew I would never get that opportunity again.

Also not quite as exciting but it was for me at the time. Dicks sporting goods a while back had berkley power worms at half off and Berkley was also running a rebate which combined made them like 75% off I think. I got as many bags as the rebate allowed I think. I'm still fishing those worms lol. They're one of my staples in the warmer months.

curado k for $75. the guy wanted like $120 but no one bought after a few days  so he caved in and said yes. Funny thing was after we agreed and i was heading out the door the guy texts me said he could get more on ebay. I was like, "dude you already agreed! thats not right" giving him guilt trip for like 10 minutes then he said yes again.

LOL if that was me i would of just put the  texts on ignore and sold it to someone else for more.

DSG was clearing out Shimano SLX's, $40.

Same DSG was closing their field and stream, all fly tying and fly fishing gear 75% off.

2 websites had gift card deals for certain products, i bought over $1000 worth of rods and reels and got over $1000 in cards.

TW had a promo years ago, if you bought so many Daiwa Aird X rods they would get cheaper and cheaper to a certain extent. I am the proud owner of 14 Aird X rods, 10 of them came from that deal for $33 each.

Midway had those St Croix deals where i bought a $275 rod and got $200 back.

Got a USA Zillion for $220 taxed and shipped from them as well, unlike their JDM counterparts these MSRP at $375.

There were dozens of sales where i bought alot of baits, line, and lures between 50-90% off as well. Ive got several hundred bags of soft plastics for about $1-2 per bag from Strike King, and the Elaztech brand (i guess their name is not good here?)

One of the best sales though, was the Christmas Pure Fishing sale a few years ago. Some of you might remember how legendary it was. Most items were 50% off, but some discounts stacked where you could get up to 75%. All their brands, rods, reels, line, lures.

They then started doing mass cancelations on unshipped orders.....

These kinds of sales are gone now sadly. Its MSRP only with 20% off being considered good....

I think the one you're referring to was much worse than that (worse for Pure Fishing). They were supposed to put many items on sale for 50% off, but instead they put $50 on those items.  I didn't get greedy and only ordered six $300 rods for $50 each, and a couple $350 reels for $50 as well. I had to give Pure Fishing credit though as they were all shipped out as usual. I heard someone ordered a bunch of Penn's $500+ reels for $50 each.

Nothing the past few years.  Can add a couple more from years before that.  (That weren't listed in previous posts.)  Patriarch XT ($250 new) for $65 in excellent condition.  $200 off new PXL Type R.

Used Shaman 7'1" H-XF $170 and Shaman 7' MHF $160 (but sent extra $10 to help with shipping).  Believe these rods were around $330 new.
