And free doesn’t count...

I wasn’t sure whether to post this in the tackle or reel section so I just landed here with it and I guess it could be either or.

The wife and I went to the local mom and pop tackle store the first week COVID shut everything down and I was able to pick up not one, but two Old but well maintained Abu 5500 round reels for $50 in the used reel cabinet by the register. Also setting next to the register was a cleareance bin full of soft plastics and I helped my self to eight packs of Yamamoto senkos for $2 a pack(various colors) as well as several Yum dingers and Missile bait creatures for the same price each. I spent over $100 that day on just a simple “let’s go see what they have and kill some time” trips, but made out like a bandit. That was a good day.

Got a 7'7" Heavy gen 1 Cumara Flipping rod for $100 when they were closing them out on Tackle Warehouse. Unfortunately it was the only model they had left.

I know you said free doesn't count but Amazon sent me a TICA surf rod with a cracked insert, $200ish dollar rod. When I reached out to them they gave me a full refund and said keep it.

A few years ago I was at the St. Croix place in Minnesota going through their blemish rack, they had a Avid X H/Fast I was needing with a blemished label in their blemish rack.  Guy said $150, I only had $120 with me, his replay, "It's yours"  BAM.

Local hardware discontinuing selling fishing. Original Big O, $2.00. Old bombers, whopper stoppers, etc similarly priced. Bargains on hooks, sinkers, everything else. My brother and I loaded up. Still fishing with some of those baits today.

I got most of my Fury rods from them. They have a yearly Dobyns sale around BF for 25% off...better savings than TW's 20% BF sale.

See....my wife and I stop at an occasional yard sale and I always look for two things. Hand tools(wrenches, ratchets etc.) and fishing gear. You know what I never find at those yard sales....

Joking aside when I do luck up on a yard sale that has fishing gear it’s always too rough a shape to justify me buying at any price. Good job sir.

If we are talking about the same worm. That greasy oily black version of worm is one of my favorites.

A large fishing retailer is always at my local boat show in the winter.

They have always had deals on Loomis rods, buy one get one free. I've done it two years in a row, (IMX Pros and NRX's) Two years ago they changed it and it was buy a GLX or NRX and get a Curado DC for free. Not as good as the previous but still awesome.

Unfortunately the boat show didn't happen this winter because of COVID.

I did a side job for a guy in Blue Springs Mo installing a new storm door. Blue Springs Mo was the home of Mar Lynn bait company years ago. We started talking fishing, and it turns out he worked at Mar Lynn when he was in high school. He had boxes of 2" Puddle Jumpers in his garage and gave me several bags when I finished. Its always good to talk fishing with someone, and, you never know who you'll meet along the way.

Agree. My wife usually finds something at yard sales, but I rarely do. I don't need any vases, dishes, or flower pots. I'm on the lookout for tools or fishing gear.

Daiwa Millionaire CT SV, one of the Japanese shops had them for 50% off during the Christmas season.  I ended up getting one for $270 shipped.  MSRP is about $525 USD.

When I was 10-12 years old I went to a garage sale with my Mom.  I found a tackle box that was loaded and bought it for a couple of bucks.  That was 46 years ago and I still have a couple items that I've kept from that box just for nostalgia.

I believe mine is my boat.

I have a Triton TR-17 that came setup with 3 HDS graphs, tons of upgrades and tournament ready. There was hardly any wear and tear.  Everything was in perfect working order. I paid 5K cash.

I have upgraded the TM since, and put brand new batteries in it. I re-wired the trailer. All in all no other issues in the last 3 years.

Quantum Smoke baitcaster for $35 (retailed for around $200)

Shimano Bantam baitcaster and GLoomis IMX Pro for $399 (reel is $350, rod is $325)

10 Packs of Havoc Pit Boss for $3.95

Abu Garcia Veracity rod for $45 (retailed for $200)

Stradic Ci4+ at DSG.  Was charged $.01.  Told them about it over the phone and they said Merry Christmas and that was the price because the previous one I ordered came open in the box with mismatched parts (frankenreel).  I still am wowed by it.
