Super User Darren. Posted April 26, 2021 Super User Posted April 26, 2021 Hobbies beside fishing? Well, since Covid, I've not participated much in anything, including fishing, truth be told. Still working at Lowe's after losing my cushy internet job. But hobbies I have include mountain biking, playing guitar, working on my 99 Tacoma, other vehicles. Learning how to flux core weld. Yearning for another Milwaukee tool to add to my collection, but $$ is in short supply in every regard. Wife wants me to turn my attention to the house exterior, but I'm feeling overwhelmed, esp. with cost of lumber on the rise. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted April 27, 2021 Super User Posted April 27, 2021 Hobby that I've had for over 30 years and still actively doing today is mtnbiking.......addicted. My brother of 57 yrs of age is a roofer and logger and is an absolute animal on a mtnbike and pushes me ( 60 ) on every ride. Calls me and asks " you fish'n today ? ". Lol 1 Quote
DanielG Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 A bunch of stuff... Comes and goes. I used to do a lot of backpacking. Section hiked parts of the AT. Probably the best was having and bringing up two girls who've made me proud. I taught science for way too long in a Jr. High. I've had so many. Here's a few things I've dabbled in over the years. I've done portrait painting. This is my niece. I made guitars way back...Played them a fair amount too. Tons of furniture....Another guitar in the background there... And as some of you know, I try to make fishing lures from scratch... 7 Quote

Bubba 460 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 For 30 years I painted pictures full time for a living while living in Alaska. Didn't get rich but paid the bills and sometimes got to eat too. Did some commission work as well ~ like the charging bear. 8 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 Reminds me a lot of Jack Terry's work, a painter from the Texas hill country. I have a large number of his Limited Edition, signed prints. One of my things for several years was picture framing. I was a CPF, and had a very thriving business in Texas, until I moved to GA, and found how cheap the south GA women could be (got tired of hearing "well Michaels on charges" it wasn't funny. I did mostly high end, conservation framing, and hand cut mat designs, hand laced needle work etc. The way it's supposed to be framed, not the way Michaels does it. 1 Quote

I decided to teach myself, with a bit of help from the internet. I figured it was an extension of my photography at the time. It IS NOT a simple process. I have lots of framed prints in the house. I'm sure I'm down for cutting mats again, lol. Man, that had a really steep learning curve and failure was total failure. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 When I got out of it, my wife didn't want me to sell the equipment so I could still frame her needle work and stuff. I still have the equipment for a full blown frame shop. That's the pneumatic V-nailer under pinner, saws, Fletcher mat cutter, Fletcher Oval mat cutter, Fletcher wall mounted mat and glass cutter, vacuum mount, hundreds of acid free mat board, bunches of sued mat board, and hundreds of feet of molding, plus about anything else one would need. A full blown, operational frame shop was all stored and hasn't been used in 20 years. Thousands of dollars worth, just in case the wife decides she wants something framed. Which I would not have the room to set it up if she did. I was actually very good at hand carving matts, I studied Brian Wolff's technique and pretty much mastered it. Now days it's all done by computer, but I still think the hand carved looks much better. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 That Fletcher tooling is THOUSANDS of dollars folks. Serious gear. Quote
gunsinger Posted April 29, 2021 Author Posted April 29, 2021 Hobbies can be expensive. I don't like to think what I've spent on guns, fishing gear and woodworking tools ? 1 Quote

DaubsNU1 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 I fished a lot from 1991 through early 2000's when my daughters got a little older. Cut back on hobbies as they progressed through sports and high school. They are 23 and 21 y/o, and in college now...Man, I miss those days at the diamond, in the gym. Parked the boat for 15+ years, and finally got back in to fishing last summer. Other hobbies, in no particular order: - Deer, waterfowl, turkey, upland hunting - Restoring my 1972 Chevy K-20 - Photography (which turned in to a nice side hustle...mhttps://www.daubertphotography.com/ - ATV-ing with the wife - RV-ing...just got 5th wheel - Exercise / biking / swimming / etc. (trying to stay healthy) 1 Quote

Mine is as bought in '84, less tires, brake pads, and bar wrap. I primarily ride my '03 Cannondale Jekyll 1000. For the road riding I do (or don't do), I can't justify today's bike prices. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted April 29, 2021 Super User Posted April 29, 2021 Pretty sure a 92 Lumina minivan has the same seats and switchgear. It was all made by Rubbermaid. Quote
