Super User BrianMDTX Posted April 20, 2021 Super User Posted April 20, 2021 After never catching a bass on a jerkbait, lately I’ve been doing well with a 4.3” Googan Scout in Pro Blue. It’s a rattling, suspending jerkbait for 4’-6’ depths. I have some floating Rapalas but they don’t seem to do the trick (they float to the top fast). I’d like to try some others. Looking for some good recommendations. Quote
HaydenS Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Vision 110's are great, but don't have the best durability for $25 bait. If you treat them right they won't break, don't jerk them against rocks, and don't hit them against the water to get grass off. Lucky Craft pointers 78 pointers are awesome, I got my first jerkbait fish ever on this one! Lucky Strike makes a Rick Clunn jerkbait, but they need some suspend strips since they float. I would go with the Lucky craft 78 or Vision 110, on 10 pound line, on a medium action rod, 6.8:1 gear ratio reel. https://discounttackle.com/products/lucky-craft-pointer-78-suspending-jerkbait?_pos=2&_sid=3e8ee5f56&_ss=r https://discounttackle.com/products/megabass-ito-vision-110?_pos=1&_sid=c2e82337f&_ss=r Quote

Well, the rod is a MF and the reel is 6.4:1 spooled with 10 lb Big Game lol. I’ll look at those two. Thanks. 1 Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Rapala Husky Jerk is a suspender. They don't dive very deep, probably 3-4' or maybe 5' on a long cast. I also like the X Rap, but the Husky Jerk is a more consistent producer for me. X Raps also tend to dive a little deeper and have a more erratic action on the twitch. Good old silver has been the best color for me With Husky Jerks, and I really like Olive Green for the X Rap. Quote
BlakeMolone Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 I just started fishing jerkbaits this year and the pointer 78 is the only one I’ve ever fished but being a total newb to jerkbaits and fishing some pressured areas I have killed it on an Lucky craft 78 so pointer in the solid white color and especially American Shad. It’s my new favorite way to fish now. 1 Quote
813basstard Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Berkley cutter 110 is a really good, not that expensive bait. Hooks are small but stupid sharp. 1 Quote
galyonj Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 6th Sense Provoke 106 has excellent hardware out of the box Rapala Ripstop has a neat spoiler Special note: The 4-6' suspending H2O Xpress jerkbaits will flat-out catch you some fish, too. I catch just as many on them as I do on the nicer ones I've bought (and lost, or broken). I caught this year's PB on a sexy shad H2O Xpress jerkbait. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 20, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 20, 2021 6th Sense Provoke 106 is one of my favorites, although I have to change the hooks. Whoever thought an EWG treble on a jerkbait was a good idea needs a swift kick. The Headhunter is another I really like. It's a 110 style bait that I've caught a ton of fish with the last couple years. They just came out with a 110 +2 style also which is hard to find in an inexpensive bait. 2 Quote
Biglittle8 Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 I use a Lucky Craft SP100 alot in that depth range. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 20, 2021 Super User Posted April 20, 2021 I really like the Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue Elite 8 for that depth profile. The Elite 8 runs 6' - 8' depending on line size and type. I fish that bait on 10lb mono and it dives just a hair deeper than 6'. If you use 8lb fluorocarbon you can get it to 8'. Chrome/black back and orange belly is a great all purpose color but there are translucent options as well and the clown pattern is one of my favorites. 3 Quote

It catches fish but not at the same rate the higher quality megabass does. Also, the treble hooks are junk. But you get what you pay for at 8 bucks a pop. Quote

Oh, yeah, I fish most lures with the stock hooks until they fail, not these, I change them out right away. I get them while on sale and they are a bit under $6. It's one of my best cold water JBs. I find the 110 is a better lure in slightly warmer water, even then I have 3 or 4 other JBs that I like better than the MB. To each his own, but most of the ones I own, I have from fishing JBs with guys for pinks. 1 Quote

TriStateBassin106 Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Yozuri 3db is my favorite and I also would recommend Husky jerks by rapala. Quote
SAL321 Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I just got into jerkbait fishing this year as well. All are medium depth 6-9 but i'm having a hard time getting them down to that depth after a few cranks. They are suspending baits but I need to just stick with it and figure out what I'm doing wrong I ended up going with a Loca Special from 13 Fishing (really performs the best of what I have) 2 IMA Flit 120's (colors are awesome and great action) and a Duel Hardcore that has really not got a long look or much time. Super User FishTank Posted April 22, 2021 Super User Posted April 22, 2021 The most productive jerk bait I have ever used...... Megabass Vision 110 in Pro Blue. I have had it for about 15 years or longer. Still works great..... Quote
EWREX Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 rapala shadow rap and strike king kvd jerkbaits are MORE than serviceable and will not break the bank. swap the hooks if you wish. Quote

Those IMA Flits are a really good choice. Try throwing them on 10lb braid with or without a short mono/flouro leader. That will help get them down deeper. Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 I like the Cabela’s Mean Eye both the original and the “Walleye Series” Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Academy Sports has a nice looking one too called Ultimate Jerk Bait. Looks sort of like a Vision 110 and is made by their house brand H2O Express which IMO is one of the best "house brands" you can get and I think they're like $5. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress™-ultimate-jerk-shad-1-2-oz-floating-jerk-bait?repChildCatid=891758 Quote
