bigfishnfreak Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Have any of you been looking at new boat prices, there up 25-50 percent in two years, must be a covid thing. now a tracker after shipping and setup, taxes its a 25,000 boat. for a 60 hp. Quote
Super User gim Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 I’m sure it’s a combination of component/material supply and demand, which is way up. Even less than perfect used boats are in demand too. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 A couple years and the market will be flooded with slightly used boats and the new and used market pricing will reflect that. 6 Quote

I'm anticipating this as well. Once people feel safer to travel, they'll dump the boats and will spend money on vacations again...or when they get their first boat maintenance bill, whichever comes first. ? Glad I got mine when I did. I think I lucked out. 3 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 Supply and demand, builders can't get materials to meet the demand, and what they can get is costing them a whole lot more. Somebody told me they were at Home Depot the other day and a sheet of 3/4" plywood was $96, that's up two to three times. Quote

I think so too. Although it may be more than a couple years, we don't really know. I can foresee it now. A guy buys a brand new boat, RV, or other recreational item, uses it twice a year and says "why do I even have this thing anymore? Its taking up space here and I don't even use it. Time to sell." 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 I'm counting on the used market bottoming out. The prices and the wait time right now are really prohibitive. I might have to buy something in the interim that isn't as nice as my ultimate goal. 1 Quote

Super User Way2slow Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 Marine plywood is always more expensive. They made it sound like this was regular pine plywood, the stuff that's normally $35 - $40 a sheet 1 Quote
NYBasser Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 I just purchased a new Phoenix in November of last year and just from my experience of seeing how the demand has been and with dealers not being able to keep boats in stock, I feel like the prices will definitely continue upwards at least for a couple more years. Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 I purchased my boat just after Labor Day last year and so far they haven't gone up in price bases on "build your boat" option from the website. I texted the Northeast rep to see what kind of price increases he's expecting this year. Haven't heard back yet, but he's pretty good about responding. Quote

He's seeing a 6% increase this year. I actually don't think that's all that bad. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 That's a lot dough. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 We're seeing building materials up 15-20% plus. 6% increase over a 2 year period isn't that bad. 1 Quote
BBuck Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Same thing for trucks too. Unfortunately, I'm looking to get both and am getting sticker shock! Even looking at very used trucks and boats is way expensive now. I need to find an angry new divorcee to get any boat at a reasonable price these days. lol 1 Quote
Allen Der Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 boat prices have been going up for 10 years since the financial crisis and consolidation of the industry. It's the low interest rates and 10-20 year loan terms that have been the main driver. Quote
bigfishnfreak Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 Allen Der, i think your right, here in California there's a refinancing boom, home prices in san diego for new construction is 1.5 -2 million for a poorly built house. old homes built in the 50's are 800-1m on a 50x80 lot, everyones rich .( they think) just like the last disaster that happened, some never learn. they keep robbing the piggy bank. Goldstar225 Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Claiming boat price increases of 25-50% over two years is a little bit of an exaggeration me thinks.? No doubt prices have gone up, as always. I bought my Tracker PT190 three years ago for 22K, it's now 26K (counting freight & prep on both). The 175 TXW is now 22K. Glad I bought it when I did. Quote
bigfishnfreak Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 well, the tracker xl classic-- entry model was 9995 now 14995, the 175txw was 14995 now 20,000 what happened was the boat would come standard with a 60 hp --175 model now the standard is a 25hp same with the lowe st175 they came standard 60 -- now 25. boat for boat there way up. Super User Way2slow Posted April 18, 2021 Super User Posted April 18, 2021 lo n slo, you have two things working against your on getting top dollar for yours. Javelin is no longer in production, so people get spooked by that and think it would be a bad buy. If it still has the OMC engine on it, OMC is no longer in production so people think it will be hard to get parts for them. Both of these conditions make not so ideal for someone trying to get rid of them. Javelin is a good boat, there are so many OMC motors on the water and so many parts are interchangeable on them, it will be many years before parts become hard to get. However, that has nothing to do with the average person's mental concept of the situation. 1 1 Quote

It's the reason I sold the Lund now. Trade in value on boats suck. This year, the trade in value was $12K less than I sold the boat for. Once the used market is flooded, Trade in's will be worth nothing. I'll fish a year or two out of the $400 pond hopper I bought and hopefully score a great deal on a big rig in the near future. 1 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted April 18, 2021 Super User Posted April 18, 2021 Noticed it. One of the guys I fish with has a Crestliner that was $11,000 new 3 years ago. Same boat today is $16,000. Sales on boats, RV's and outdoor equipment are at an all time high. Where I work, we make a particular outdoor piece of equipment and we are know a year out (maybe more) on delivery. This year our sales have doubled and then some. Quote
