Luke Barnes Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 I have two packs of Mizmo tubes just laying around that I want to try out on some pond LM. I dont have the actual tube jig heads so what's some other ways to rig them? Quote
Super User Spankey Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 With an EWG hook and Texas rig fish it. Worm weight. Peg it, don’t peg it. 1 Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 What jigheads do you have? Other styles of jigheads work as well as "tube" heads... oe 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 You can t-rig them with a small sinker, you can rig them with a regular jighead either in or out of the tube, you can nose hook them, you can drop shot with them, you can "the secret I didn't want to give away" cut one point off a treble that fits inside the tube just so, and run it in front of a spook on a short dropper. Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 15, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2021 Tube is one of my main staples and I’ve never used a tube jig head. Round ball jig heads work 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 Ive got crappie jigs, ball head jigs, ned rig heads, all sorts of stuff. So I can just T rig it like any Ol soft plastic? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 T-rig is probably more common outside the northeast. Tubes are an excellent punch bait. The problem with most ball heads and crappie jigs is the hook size. I good tube head has a bigger, stout hook. If you end up buying some, look at Bite Me tackle Flat Eyes. Quote

Michigander Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Up until four or so years ago, I thought I hated tube fishing. Turns out I just hated tube jig heads. I rig them all kinds of ways now and they are one of my favorite baits. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 I use a gamakatsu skip gap hook when I’m fishing tubes in weeds. It’s specifically designed for tubes. Peg a weight above. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 I either T-rig them, or rig them on a split shot rig. 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 What is a tube supposed to mimic? Quote

This is my normal way, but I think I caught a Randy Blaukat tip video where he puts a small slit/slice for better hook penetration. Also theres a version where you can put a dipsy sinker in the tube and have the hook go through the eyelet. Will probably give these a shot at some point. scott 1 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 15, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 15, 2021 Here are a bunch of ways to rig them: 1 hour ago, Luke Barnes said: What is a tube supposed to mimic? Crawfish or baitfish, depending on how your rig and use them. 2 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 The oversized Big Dude heads with some of the colors are supposed to mimic a goby. I think Erie anglers discovered it by accident, using homemade 1 oz. pill head jigs to get the tubes deep quickly and maintain contact with the bait in wind. Quote
E-rude dude Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 You can rig a tube on anything jig head ewg hook worm hook straight shank hook I’ve even nose hooked them on a drop shot hook. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 16, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 16, 2021 Put a bell sinker inside it, hook an EWG hook through the eye of the bell sinker and T rig the bait. It'll glide all over the place and skip a mile. Quote
Violinguy Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 My PB until recently was caught on a Texas rigged tube bait with a 1/4 oz bullet weight. Since I moved to GA, I haven't had much luck with tubes no matter how I rigged them. I buy some every year though just in case. Quote

Michigander Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 You can also add a foam earplug into the body to make it float and now it's a frog. ? 1 Quote
