Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 14, 2021 Super User Posted April 14, 2021 Head over to wallyworld. They usually have a clearance table with baits that are fine and are marked way down. Also look at the plastic worms and spinnerbaits, ect. Are you by any chance fishing any of the city park lakes in your area ? 4 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 14, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 14, 2021 Keep an eye on the flea market here. You can get some great deals on baits if you're fast, but the good deals go quick. 2 Quote
cdlittle Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Yum Dingers and some wacky hooks will keep you catching fish! 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 14, 2021 Super User Posted April 14, 2021 Wally World usually has assorted bargain lures in boxes, I still sit & dig through the whole box. 1 Quote
huZZah Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I feel you. I don’t fish tournaments or anything but I have two children constantly losing baits. Yum and Big Bite Baits are significantly cheaper and I have come to prefer them. Zoom are a little more than those but still reasonable depending on the style of plastic. Ordering big bites direct from them saves money as well. I refuse to get them at academy for $2 more per bag. I get most of my yum from wal mart. I use Wally off brand lipless cranks a lot and they’re fine. Waaaaay cheaper. I still have a few of their $2 spinners and they are ok, although the skirt is sometimes lost on a single cast lol. I ended up getting a bunch of the wahoo and reed runner or grass runner (can’t remember the brand) from cabellas...they’re like $3 but quite a bit more durable. The Creme swimbaits and beetle spinners at wal mart are also very cheap and they work as well. The only thing I won’t buy off brand are the inline spinners. They just flat suck. One thing I’ve learned is you can buy the off brand cheaper baits and they’re fine, but the hooks suck. So I have quite an assortment of replacement trebles and such of better quality. Still not name-brand typically, but I get 25 or more for $2 kinda thing. And they work great. There’s even a thread on here where he turns the Walmart spinners into underspins. I tried it and it’s pretty easy, although I don’t really use underspins much. If you want to spend $$$ on baits it’s easy. If you don’t, it’s also pretty easy. 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 You can pick up H&H Spinnerbaits on Ebay for around a buck each. I've caught a ton of fish on them. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 14, 2021 Super User Posted April 14, 2021 Jawbone brand spinnerbaits and buzzbaits - $3 each. DSG or F&S usually carry them. The bass in my avatar was caught on a 3/8oz Jawbone spinnerbait. They also have other lures available at comparable prices - not the most durable, but usable. 2 Quote
delman Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 BPS has a table set up with cheep baits always, as others has suggested Walmart has some cheep baits for sale also or if you can buy the blanks and paint them as you want you can get blanks cheep you can make spinner baits as well as buzz baits, cranks, top water anything you want go to lure baits on line they have everything you need good luck Quote
garroyo130 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 For hardbaits, Academy's H2O Xpress are great for the price. If you look online prices tend to be higher than in-store for some reason 3 Quote

Agree Catt. Wally World has Creme and Lucky Strike plastic worms, and brush hog baits sometimes for 1.00 per pack. Last year , I found a bunch in the clearance isle for . 25 per pack. 2 Quote

I agree...you can find great deals through online re-sell markets (often unused). I mostly donate to local high school clubs now but have sold online to thin the heard in the past. I sold for cheap as I figured there was a reason many were looking for used. Quote
928JLH Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 www.jigs4bass.com quality buzzbaits, spinnerbait, chatterbait and jigs that are very affordable. Been shopping there a few years now. Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 A true budget lure is a lure you can catch a lot of fish on. For example a Rebel Pop-R can catch dozens of fish. Most soft plastics are not the best budget lures since they usually tear by the time you catch a couple of fish. Quote
GRiver Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Walmart clearance section.... yard sales are a good place too.... I bought a Plano tray with 7 rattle traps - all chrome/ blue or black backs for $2.00. Now that does happen all the time, but it is a cheap way to get some lures. I start scanning for rod tips sticking up as I pull up to the sale. Thanks ....bubba 460 and waymont for the links, I had never heard of them before. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 Academy Sports H2O square bill is as good as any plastic square bill made no matter what the price. I still prefer balsa square bills, but use H2O most of the time. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 15, 2021 Super User Posted April 15, 2021 Check out local auctions in your area. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 Cordell Super Spot Booyah spinnerbaits SK buzzbaits Boss jigheads H2O cranks and poppers Zoom and Big Bite plastics Rooster tails And I'll second the fishing show/flea market used route, you can get stuff for pennies on the dollar, but you do need to know what you are looking at. Looking at sale and clearance items can save a lot too, but that usually happens most during the off season. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 16, 2021 Super User Posted April 16, 2021 My advice for SoCal lakes is forget hard baits and focus your efforts and money on soft plastics.. Rom Quote
