Baby Bull Shad Swimbait

I've been thinking about starting to fish with swimbaits. I want to spend less than $20, so I am think about the Baby Bull Shad swimbait. Has anyone used it before? Is it a good beginner swimbait? I you have any thoughts or suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

I have a Baby Bull Shad and Baby Bull Gill. Haven't used them much yet, but first impressions are quite positive.

They are made to be reeled just under the surface.

I've seen them and others at the shop. I have never used one. I sometime get intimidated by bigger baits. I honestly believe they should produce nice sized fish. I'm just kicking my season off (in the north) right now. I may just try a couple of them when we are in the dog days of summer mode. The ones you are talking about are 1/2 oz. Some of the one I have in mind are slightly bigger. Good luck try it.

I have a few of them. They have great action, however I wish the fished a bit deeper than they do. Like was mentioned before, they swim right under the water surface and pretty shallow. 

 

I have yet to catch a bass on one, but I have only fished it once, and it was just to see the action the bait had, and to see if it lived up to the hype action wise.

They do have great action and they do catch fish, lots of them, but I haven't noticed an uptick in quality of fish.  Cheap swimbait that improves the class of fish for me is the S waver 168.  Take it as you will....

They do catch fish but are fairly light at 1/2 oz and small. They cast like a tater chip so I throw mine on spinning tackle. Here's a 9", 6", and four Baby Bulls.

Do you burn the 9" with success?  or at the size is a less frantic stop and go produce?

With the 9" I'll swim it slowly really targeting LM with a few twitches throw in to trigger a hit. The 6" & 8" I'll burn & kill it for the Spots. Big size difference between the 8 and 9".

Confirms my guesses if I ever pony up to try the 9".  Appreciated

The Baby Bull Shad is decent. I'd suggest not getting into swimbaits if you're trying to not spend much money on baits because the baits themselves are expensive, and you'll need specialized rods and reels to fish them.

I got a Baby Bull Gill  - that's the limit of my SB baits...luckily I have rods that can handle that one. Bigger ones like the S-Waiver 168 I'd have to invest in a new rig...nope...not going there...though the 120 is doable.
