Nail weight versus half moon(mushroom) weight for neko rig.
sorry for the newbie question what would be the case for using either one?

If I have to choose one would be nail weight, less bulky part sticking out less snag. I also want that tapping sound when shaking around rock so I don’t push nail weight all the way in. I’d used both regular nail weight and ball head nail weight. Now all I use is this. DIY screw in weight.

The original “nail” weight rig worm used a nail!, ie nail weight.

We cut off about 1/4” of the worm nose flat, inserted a nail and wacky hooked it before we knew what wacky hooked was in the early 70’s.

It became a Neko rig when Japanese anglers discovered the nail weight in a Senko works.

I use an actual nail. You can get a bunch of small nails for cheap from the hardware store and they make a little more noise than lead when they click against a rock.

I use hex head self drilling sheet metal screws mostly. If I'm skipping it around boats then I switch to something that I can push all the way in.

I thought it might be nail weight when you want it to be quiet & half moon weight when you’d want to tap on the rocks. But like I said I’m brand new to this
