I have a rig I've set up just for in-line spinners. I throw #5 Mepps, Giant Killers and Musky Killers, Micro Baby Girls and MDC spinners. I've always used mono until last year, when I tried Power Pro braid. The problem was simple: even with a great ball bearing swivel, I got twist buildup. It was okokokokokokok then BAM! and I had a knot I had to cut off. If that happens regularly, it's expensive!

Is there any such thing as a braid that is noticeably more resistant to twist buildup? I could run anything from 50 lb. to 65 lb. test.

   Thanks.            jj

I too made the switch to braid for inline spinners last year but have since switched back. Maybe I just need more experience with braid and treble hooks but I lost too many fish using braid.

I love braid but not for most trebles anymore.  I won’t even use it for spinners/buzzbaits cause it gets fouled so much more often.

Only treble I have used on 30lb braid lately is lipless crank. 1/4oz I think...it’s small.  But I quit doing that cause it’s hard not to rip the thing right outta their mouths.

I don't need to worry about ripping the hook out of their mouths. I have a fiberglass rod (moderate action) and other than the #5 Aglia, these have 3/0 trebles.

My only problem so far is the twist build-up in the line. It's got me flustered.  ?                   jj

There should be no twist with a swivel. I would go with a short heavy mono leader and a good bb swivel joining the braid to leader. A slower rod that bends low is almost a must with trebles and braid.

Yes, I know. I should be young and handsome, too, but I'm not. ?

I've used about every brand of swivels I can get locally except Sampo. No one carries Sampo. They tell me they're too expensive and won't sell. The best I've used so far is VMC, but they only delay twist buildup a little longer.             jj

What size spinning reels do you use? I use powerpro on my size 4000 spinning reels and it works great.

I used (past tense) powerpro on my spinners, too. It worked OK, which is why I went to it when I wanted to try braid on a baitcaster. I quickly found out that there's a difference between 10 or 15 lb. braid and 65 lb. braid, I'll tell you that!   ?

I'd hate to run a Baby Girl or Giant Killer off a spinning setup. The resistance would give me arms like Popeye.  ?                 jj

Are using a leader or just a snap swivel? I only use one swivel when i make a leader but most are sold with two, one on each end. I wonder if two good swivels would make a difference. I don’t have twist when i use a leader but i don’t have a rig solely  for spinners. I have had twist trolling spoons when they get fouled up.

Hmmmmmmmm ..........  Something to think about. I remember the old bead chain swivels that were used by trollers. They used spoons and spinners, too, so they had the same problems.

I don't know why I didn't think of that, but I'm going to try two swivels and see whether it makes a difference.

If it doesn't work, can I blame you @michaelb?    ???                  jj

I only use up to #3 mepps no issue at all with 8# braid or 8# nanofil but Im going for stocked trout. Use the same 2 line/set-ups for 3 seasons now no ill effect on my line. I use 1-1/2' leader of 10# fc to a spro bb swivel or eagle claw.

@jimmyjoe I fish large saltwater lures on my spinning rods with powepro and catch lots of nice fish that way. It does help to workout your arms since it makes fishing easier.

I've tried using a mono topshot and ball-bearing swivels with neither of them working. Just recently started using the tiniest little bead chain swivel and so far thats done the trick!
