I got to fish a little bit this morning, first thing I hit a nest of dinks. I mean, I was pulling them out left and right. I did manage to get 1 ok fish. Then I went home to do yard work. I started by weedeating off one of my wife's nicely trellised plants off about 6 inches from the ground. Then I proceeded to trim the bushes and also about 2ft of a fairly new garden hose that my wife just hung up( strike2 for the wife's stuff) I then wanted to water the really nice lawn I'm starting to get, so I turned on the irrigation system and Shazam...I got a leak... A big leak! I shut it down and went to look for the source...found it! I drove a spike through the line when I was installing a big beautiful trellis for...you guessed it... My wife. So I go to turn the irrigation water supply off a when I pull the cosmetic cover... SNAKE! Right on the valve. Thought it was a copperhead at first but after closer examination...corn snake. Hope y'all had a nice day? thanks for letting me vent!

I joked the other day that, under normal circumstances, I don't do much for classifying plants beyond three very simple sets:

  • I'm allowed to mow this
  • I get in trouble if I mow this
  • I have to use a chainsaw for this

Keeps it nice and simple. Sometimes I screw up when I'm differentiating between the first two taxonomy sets.

Sorry bro. Some days you get the bull, some days you get the horns.

That's a real pretty little snake you found, though.

I'll be relegated to strictly mower after today

Yep @Biglittle8, I've have my episodes of the "Texas Weed Eater Massacre". My wife knows I'm botanically challenged. I can't tell the difference between a weed to parsley to chive. We've had plenty of plain baked potato last fall due to "Weed Eater Gone Wild".

I feel bud. ?

I just have to laugh when I have days like this... It was actually to the point of comedy. But thanks?

I hear ya. I'm in construction and I've had those days where it seems like everything you touched broke. Those days are dangerous. You're afraid to go to the bathroom at that point. ?

My wifes friends with a lady whose husband was weed eating last summer kicked up a rock and now he's blind in that eye.

I like your style. I’ve wrecked entire cities with a weedeater

Never ever ever ever weedeat or fish without sunglasses on. I worked on a lawn crew in college and used to take my shades off when they fogged up early in the morning. Boy did I get my a** chewed up and down for that

Could've been worse. You did get to fish and that snake could've been a Wasp nest. Cut the wrong plant, whatever it'll grow back.

That snake at first glance does have the color and somewhat close markings of a copperhead (color variances of the copperhead can be diverse)  I can see where you would have thought that it was one.

I have seen two copperheads swim across a lake.

I always wear safety glasses when weed eating but they are not sunglasses. My question is why did your safety glasses have to be sunglasses? Were sunglasses all you were using for eye protection?

Sorry safety glasses would have been better. Boss man didn’t Care if it was prescription eyeglasses sunglasses or safety glasses as long as you were wearing something over your eyes. I had many many rocks stopped by $5 wal mart sunglasses. I pretty much put on sunglasses as soon as I wake up everyday since that job and that was almost 20 years ago now

I thought you were required to wear safety type sunglasses and wasn't sure why. Sorry if this was a stupid question. I apologize to the OP as I didn't mean to hijack this thread.

I usually have one or two of those days a year.  Anything I touch will break.

Nobody has a monopoly on "one of them days"  I've had more than my fair share over the years, as I'm sure everybody else has.

That's the one nice thing about being retired.  When having one, I can just say "p**s on it, and just not do anything else for rest of the day, hoping the next day will be better.

As for the snake, how about being 15 and in a boat with a retired Army major that always kept in 1911 on his side and scared to death of snakes.  Then have a water snake fall off a limb as you a passing under it into the boat, and the guy starts unloading his 1911 into the bottom of the boat.   The only saving grace was this was just a ditch connecting two ponds and was only about three feet deep.
