Just got back from Lake Fork TX and the fishing was tough.  Tues and Wed winds were really up on the main lake  20mph plus 35-45 mph gusts  The guide (Mike Mc Farland) brought us to some back water spots to get out of the wind and we only caught 2 fish the whole day Tues and 1 fish on Monday.  Every guide I spoke to and some of the boaters that stayed a the lodge where we stayed (Burning Stump, Highly- recommend- it's a fisherman's place not a marriot) said the lake is about 3-4 weeks off its normal pace due to a major freeze they had a few weeks ago and the fluctuating temps.  Spawn hasn't really started, only spotted a few bed fish and they weren't having anything to do with us.  we pitched to what looked like 2 great beds for about 45 minutes each.. Nada the guide tried it ... Nada..

Thursday was a much calmer day and we were out with a different guide (Rich Stringer) and we were on the water from 7:30 AM to 7 PM and had a total of 6 fish and a couple we lost.  Nothing of any size.

I will tell you the guides worked their tails off going to shell beds, lots of wood, back water coves etc.  Just bad timing with the weather.

Would I go back.. yup.. planning a trip for next May for the top water bite.  Also heard Lake O.H. Ivie is now on fire now (just east of St Angelo TX)

That sucks and I promise your guides feel awful. I've had a couple of those trips with folks that I did everything I knew to do to put them on fish and it just didn't happen, it stinks.

Sorry to hear the fishing was bad. I agree though, we are a week or 2 behind here as well. That and the fact the wind has been 20 mph plus the last couple weekends has basically kept me off the water.

Tough trips like yours are disappointing but they prime us to keep trying hoping for a good one. I feel your pain. Thanks for the report.

Yep, it happens, it's fishing.

Had a good day Thursday and Friday and then had a no-hitter thrown at me Saturday.

Glad you still had a good time.

My friend that has a place on the lake there likes to say, "If you don't like the weather, stick around, cuz it's gonna change."

Fork is pretty nice in the fall too. October/November can be excellent. Generally less crowded too.
