Storage for 1.5 Square Bills and 1/2oz lipless baits

I’m reorganizing my tackle. I’ve switched from Plano crank bait boxes to bass mafia. The main reason is the Plano version the hooks always get caught under the shelf lip and you end up dumping the box to get one bait out. I hate it quite honestly.

My question is what do you guys/gals use to store your 1.5 Sq Bills and 1/2 oz lipless baits. Right now I have them in the Plano small crank bait box because every other box is to big. But since these are my most used baits my frustration level is high with the hook snag issue?.

3600 Plano box leaves a lot of air in the box but I guess that’s an option.

BPS 370 box with Safety Caps on the hooks to keep them from tangling.

This is my general crankbait box - but all my treble lures are stored the exact same way.

3700, I like playing "how long do I need to shake it to get it", and I don't really switch baits too often for it to be a problem. I have a different song for each type of bait, Cashmere, with an accent on the downbeat (if you can find it) works great, Mick Fleetwood works good too.

Spro has introduced three new boxes that are high quality and affordable. The smoke box is designed to maximize space. I like mine.

That’s only funny once though??

I'm a Rush fan, so I shake in 7:8.

Seriously though, I use a Plano Edge 3700.

Plano crank bait boxes are the best for storing efficiency but you MUST use hook bonnets to avoid getting hooks tangled up.  You don't even need to have bonnets on every crankbait.  eBay bonnets in bulk have worked well for me.

I have my traps in a Plano Edge 3700 box. My 1.5s are in a deep Plano 3700 with the rest of my cranks. The tangled mess that is my crankbait box would probably give a lot of guys an anxiety attack.

All my jigs are in flambeau boxes. Great boxes for that. You can order extra dividers too. Wish they made this box in a 3” version for 1.5 square bills though.

This may be my solution but the hook cover bonnet thingys look like a pain to put on and keep track of. I could be wrong.

Currently they're all in one box that makes me cuss every time I need to get one out. Following this thread so I can put an end to that

The bonnets pop on and off easily and there are small raised plastic dots that keep them in place (unless it's a thin-wire treble).  As a shore guy I'll grab 2-3 different squarebills and keep them in my pocket and using a V-Snap can easily change crankbaits without having to dive back into my bag.  The small size green ones cover most 1.5 squarebills unless you change out your hooks to something larger (like a KVD Mustad triple grips).  Next to my Boomerang snip tool the hook bonnets are probably my 2nd favorite accessory.

I recently got the 4 in 1 box from Lure Lock with the taclogic sticky gel. Holds them in place (yes, I can even shake my box and they won't fall out) but easy to remove when needed and doesn't leave a sticky residue or discolor the lure.

I had the same problem but for me, the crank box was the most efficient way to store cranks.  This is going to sound crazy but I put a bead of silicone caulk on the gap so the hook couldn’t slide under the lip and it works great.  You can also keep hooks from getting tangled by tucking the back hook up under the bait instead of having it extended.  Then it won’t hang on the bait behind it.

Edit:  If I had to do it again, I would probably put a bead of Super Glue Gel.

I just bought these for all my other crank baits but for 1.5 sq bill and 1/2 lipless baits it’s a lot of air.

Maybe a random question but are you thinking of the cranking coffin or the 3700dd? I mean there is some room with smaller cranks for sure but a 2.5 takes the full compartment. I'm just happy to have my 1.5s and 2.5s in one box that fits them all.

I use good old Plano boxes ~

Small elastic bands that bunch the bait's treble hooks together really help keeping the baits from getting tangled.

No it’s the 4” deep box. I filled 2 of them with various square bills most of them doubled up. It’s a disease

I tried this one year with parachute cord and those spring loaded clips to cinch the cord. It look real nice in the box, but

I found when on the water those just grew legs and jumped ship when I wasn’t looking. I think the wind blew them overboard. I stuck myself even more than just a jumbled mess in the box.
Im thinking the hook cover things may be the only answer.

Not sure what that is ~

The Small rubber bands I use are pretty easy, cheap and manage to solve the problem for me.

Been running this program for a couple of seasons now.

No plan to look back

Good Luck
