Hi

Came across this reel on sale for $100+ off (I think it's been discontinued?) and I'm in the market, I've read almost all good reviews but always like to hear BR members' opinions.

Good reel for jig and/or all around set up?

Also curious about the size. It's a fairly light reel, but I have small hands and have found that the Lew's LFS and SLP frames are most comfortable for me. I have been looking at the Tournament Pro LFS, but saw the Revo so figured I'd ask.

If anybody could drop their 2 cents that would be great.

Thanks!

Which generation is it?  Many feel the Gen 2 was the best reel in its price range.  Dual brakes.  Gen 1 magnetic only.  Don't know about Gen 3 or Gen 4, but imagine Revo stuck with the dual brake system.  Far as I'm concerned, one for $100 is a no brainer.  Don't like it, then sell.  If it's a new reel, you should still be able to make a small profit on it at that price reselling it used.

Own Gen 1 and 2, but can't comment on size.  I have larger hands (standard large, not huge), and it doesn't seem to bother me which reel I pick up to use.  Have 12 different brands.  From Pixy or Lew's to older Trion or Zillion size like them all.

thank you... pretty sure it's the Gen 2? Black and gold, has dual brakes.

I had the gen 4 Revo premier and I didn’t enjoy it.  It was super light weight.  Smooth on the retrieve and strong drag.   When you can get it casted.   It was the most finickiest reel I’ve ever had especially for the price point.   I’d get 2-3 great casts and spend 10 more casts getting it dialed in.    Not a set and forget reel for sure.   Even when using the same lure each cast.  I tried it with 30-50lbs braid and 12lbs yozuri hybrid.    Worked best with yozuri hybrid.   When I could get a good cast it would bomb the lures out.   The STX is the step below.   Same braking system but for some reason stays dialed in a lot better.  Only Revo I have left is the MGX2.

also I enjoyed my gen 4 Revo S a lot more than the Revo premier of that helps.

My Gen 2 hasn't been out of the box except to look at when I first got it.  The Gen 1 used very little.  My first Revo was the STXL.  Mag only.  Reelly like it. (Pun intended.)  I don't consider it finicky and have made some of my longest casts with it.  I didn't like what I read about Gen 3 Revos and haven't purchased any since.

However, you can get a finicky reel in any brand. My first SV spooled Daiwa was such a reel.  Had to send it out.  Fantastic reel now.  Picked up a 'blem' Tatula Elite.  To me 'blem' means cosmetic.  The internals on this reel are BAD.  Rather than return it and pay full price for a new one, I am going to send it to a reel specialist.  That way I know it will also be properly cleaned and lube as well as repaired.  I always get Carbontex drags installed at the same time I get reels cleaned or upgraded.  Cheap worthwhile upgrade.

Appreciate the help, seems like I'll be sticking to my Lew's. Thanks guys!

I picked up a couple of the Revo Premier Gen 4 for $99.  I bought two at the price and tried them out last year.  I thought they were awesome.  They cast great, were easy to dial in.  I was casting 1/16 ounce weighted hook flukes.  I also casted 1/2 spinnerbaits with the other one.  These are the only Abu reels I own and I bought them because of the great deal.  I like them.  I might not like them $300, but at $199 or below, I think they are a decent reel.
