I can understand why early morning and late evenings is the best time to fish in the summer, but I hear 2 different things about spring. Some say it doesn't change and some say the middle of the day is warmer for those cold spring water which makes it better for fishing. What's are other's opinion on this?

I have never really had much trouble catching fish at any time of day honestly. Sure it may pick up and drop off at different times, but it doesn’t slow me down from trying.

In early spring I found the afternoons better but right now it seems no time is better than any other .

Best time of day to fish is whenever you have time to fish.

Late winter, cold water, I won't be in a hurry to get on the water. Once the trend is towards warming, usually right around daylight savings/first day of spring, I'm fishing full days. "Prespawn"  isn't monolithic, and as do most bass perspectives and terms has the potential for confusion and misled approaches. Fish the day.

Work dictates when I go. Fish are always there. First thing in the morning is the best time to fish in my opinion 100 percent of the time but I'm usually at work so I fish evenings. At my house the current is typically nice and calm all morning and my retired or self employed buddies wax em before the wave of water comes down. By the time I'm off work the shoals where they were slaying are underwater, the current is 5 mph and you can't catch a thing haha.

Yeah I do a lot if night fishing during the week year round and it’s no different than any other times. If there’s fish there I catch then, if not, I move on or go home. IMO it’s more difficult to find those bigguns, not necessarily to find any.

The advantage targeting bed fish or sight fish between 10A-2P the sun is overhead reflection less to aid vision using polarized sunglasses snd wide brim hat.

Fish when you can.

Fish when you can, but I much prefer afternoons into the evening. One particular  body of water the bite is nonexistent during the morning but seems to turn on in the afternoon.

I've got an app on my phone that give you the major (and minor) bite times for each day.  I believe it's based on moon phase, etc.  The only problem with it is, nobody communicates those times with the bass ?

I've gone out at times that the app said were strong and been skunked.  I've been out other times where the fishing was predicted to be tough and caught more fish than I wanted to count.

I guess my point is, as others have said, the best time to fish is when you have time.  Fish gotta eat!

Around here, time of day is a water temp issue. In winter, the window is noon to about 4. As the water warms, it spreads out more. It seems like you can catch them any time of day during spawn, though I like some shadows for the topwater bite. Then, postspawn, when the water is getting warmer quick, it becomes more of a morning-evening thing. In the hottest part of the year, I don't even go midday. Of course, you gotta go when you can go.

IME, time of day does play a role in the early season.

However, it seems to be connected to the environmental conditions much more than during the warmer months.

So early and or later in the day can be good or bad depending on what the weathers been doing, as well as what it's doing while I'm fishing.  Conditions can change so very quickly during this time of year for me, firing up a wide open world class bite but also shutting one down just as fast.

I've had as much success as I have had failures attempting to "time" the whole thing.

But when I get it right - It's like Magic Man !

So I'll keep trying.

I go when I can and hopefully the air will be a little warmer, and the wind won't be blowing too bad.

Logic would indicate afternoon to sunset would be better then early morning but my experience is the opposite.

one reason may be the moon phase and where it is located during your time on the water in prespawn.

The 5 days of full moon cycle with the moon overhead favors the early morning bite. The reason isn’t warmer afternoon surface water temps, it’s bass feeding activity that is important.

It’s looking like I get to go 7:30-4 tomorrow!!! (Banff film festival with the lady downtown in the evening). Should be glorious after getting soaked at work most of the day today. I do have to cut the grass at the lake house but as @Jigfishn10 knows, it’s 97% fishing and 3% work when I go down there

I can only speak from limited LMB experience.. The places I have done well, always at first light, meaning my *** is in the water while its still dark out and I will fish an hour or 2 after first light, and the last 2 hours before its dark outside, even after dark.

Middle of the day, late afternoon I caught squat..

This is for April.
