I went to a private pond today bass fishing and something just totally crazy and freaky happened, there was a duck near the edge of the pond in the water he dives his head down and next thing you know his head is still in the water his wings are flapping with all its might and his head continues to stay under the water and it's stay there for a few minutes and I'm thinking what in the world is going on I thought maybe it had a big fish in its mouth the next thing you know I noticed that something's not right its head is looking odd so I go over there where the duck was go up to my boots and take a stick and get him out of the water it was a duck that had big feathers on its head everything was gone his feathers all the meat of its face it was just bare skin I was wondering since I've never seen anything like this do you have any idea what could have got this duck

What part of the world? I don't know what could skin a duck's head like that.

My guess is catfish, I would think a turtle would have pinched the head off.

Hello @Nettie Ballard and welcome to Bass Resource ~

Interesting first post.

My guess is it was either a snapping turtle or The Kraken

The Kraken is never not on table as a possibility.

Another vote for snapping turtle.

I was fishing once and a duck started flapping it wings and causing all kinds of commotion in the water I was trying to fish.  I trolled up by the duck and saw that a turtle had it's leg.   I dipped the turtle up with my net and it turned loose.  I guess his plan was to hold on until the duck gave out and drowned.

☝️I've seen it happen twice. Once a huge snapping turtle grabbed a full grown Mallard by the chest and a life and death struggle ensued. This time the duck won. He broke free, but not without damage.

This same thing happened to me. I was fishing a pond when I heard a mallard going ballistic. I thought maybe a bass had eaten one of her many ducklings. Then I noticed something bobbing in the water then go down again. I ran over to see what the heck was going on and a snapping turtle of probably 40 lbs give or take had the male mallard by the head.
