I know I should have heard this, but the starter's bendix didn't disengage.  I was furious that my boat was bogging down and not running right, so I shut it off to and pulled the cowl, metal shavings were everywhere, and the bendix (gear on top) of the starter was nubs, could not re-engage flywheel to turn boat over.  Has any one had this happen?  My boat wouldn't power up or anything and barely ran, I thought I had a power pack going bad.  I have replaced the bendix with one I had here and the boat is running fine now.  What would cause the bendix to get stuck like that?
