This is unfortunately proving to be the case for me. The 2021 Zillion SV TW is definitely a sexy reel, just a shame you have to spend $350 if you want a non-noisy Daiwa. It would interest me to know WHY the Zillion is smoother and quieter than say, a Coastal SV, on an objective level. Part tolerances? Gear design?, the sum of better parts? Just more care? ect... Yes, the Coastal is a tatula 100, but the gear set design differs a little from the Tat 100. The Zillion parts diagram doesn't exactly diverge in a large way from the Tatula mechanical design, and actually the Zillion 10 SV gear set design seems closer to the Tatula 100 than the Coastal SV does (I haven't seen the 2021 diagram). Maybe the supported pinion gear has a lot to do with it? That's definitely one way the Zillion differs. So I just always wonder what makes something like the Zillion noticeably and more predictably a smoother/quieter reel. Quote

The cheapest of the new butter smooth Daiwas is the Alphas TW which comes in as cheap as $250. Outside of that you're looking at used reels like the TD Zillion reels or a Zillion HD. I've heard that. I fish all 7 speed reels pretty much, so don't have much first and experience with the faster ratios. I'm guessing the Alphas SV TW is an aluminum frame supported pinion design? How much smaller are the Alpha reels? I have bear paw hands and even the 100s feel pretty small to me. Quote

It is a super smooth reel and it's size didn't stop me from pulling this tank out of a local pond. 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 10, 2021 Posted April 10, 2021 Grease can gum up the tiny plastic springs in the AR and render it intermittently inoperable. Especially in cold weather or dusty conditions. Roller clutches should be flushed and lubricated with a swab of light oil. 1 Quote

They are just not nice reels. If someone has particular tastes and prefers deathly silent and butter smooth reels then they will have to step up in price or live with it. Or buy used reels that weigh 8+ oz. I only have 2 tatulas, but they were silent out of the box if memory serves me. But I don’t really remember because I upgraded all the bearings and bushings right away. Quote

See what users beyond yourself and a few others feel about it. I'm not saying you're not affected by the flaws that you perceive, because I know they're real, but you state them as if the reels are nearly unusable, and they're not. Daiwa and Shimano need to produce a Fuego or a SLX for $12-$15 to be profitable when sold in a retail setting. That number includes packaging and paperwork. Bigger retailers can demand a lower wholesale buy price due to volume sales. There's just no room left for more than you get. SLXs become geary rather quickly and Fuegos are a bit clackety, but neither reel seems to breakdown because of those nits that drive you out of your mind. The vast majority of users here and elsewhere love them for what they are, especially given their retail and street price, and that's not just my opinion. 3 Quote

I own 12 Diawa baitcasters. including 2 fuego, 3 older tatula ct, 3 tatula sv, 4 of the newer style tatula 100. All of them feel decent. I always flush the bearings and lube everything, before I use them. I have had a few that were packed with lube from the factory and a couple that were bone dry. Keep them cleaned and lubed and they work fine. they may not be butter smooth like higher end reels , but none of mine make strange noises. In the 6 years that I have used the tatula/fuego reels none have failed. I will say the sv's and new tatula 100 reels feel a lot more refined than my fuego's and ct's. if you watch amazon and walmart online the tatula 100 goes on sale for roughly the price of a fuego.
