TriStateBassin106 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 All the bluegill around here except for my lake bluegill have this color to them or something similar at the moment (pic below). It's pretty cool to see the purple come out on them but what are some good baits/colors I can throw to match the hatch with this? My intial guess would be some kind of green pumpkin with maybe purple/gold? 2 Quote

Finessegenics Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 That's a beautiful looking fish. You're spot on with the purple and gold flake. I think Sprayed Grass would be an awesome imitation of that. Some brands use more of a watermelon base compared to a gp base with sprayed grass. Zoom's is nice. So I'd stick with those more watermelon-y sprayed grass. Also check out Mardi Gras which Zoom carries for a few of their baits. Quote
Super User Spankey Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 Rapala's original bluegill is my favorite. I took a brand new one and hung it outside all winter to give it a fade. Been thinking of trying this for a few years now. Can't wait to use it, it was not hurt or damaged in anyway. Other bluegill cranks I use are Lucky Craft. Their possibilities are almost endless. They run shallower. I've tried a few Rapala Live image versions, they worked but barely worked. I wont use real image. You should have no problem finding that match. Quote
Hewhospeaksmuchbull Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 spitballin, take a look at baby bull shad in rainbow trout, Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 This is a neat little bait for shallow water or ponds. Not necessarily the best bull for deflecting, but it will hunt on its own. 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 Maybe Zmans Green Pumpkin Goby. Purple and gold flake, if only you could die Elaztech and make the belly chartreuse... Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 9, 2021 Super User Posted April 9, 2021 Look at the Lucky Craft 1.5 in BE Gill. Spinnerbaits Mike Siebert surely has something. Allen 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 9, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 9, 2021 I tie my bladed jigs with a backbone/blue main skirt and blue lavender accents with a few strands of chartreuse because the tails always has that touch of chartreuse on it. Some folks like a touch of yellow or orange if they've got other sunfish in the lake too. Had a customer catch his new PB on it this past week in fact. Quote

Allen The BE Gill is a nice pattern. I’ve done well with it. Softer matted color. Where I fish I believe blue gills is the primary food source much of the season. Quote
countryboy65 Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Poor boys tubes have a couple colors that match that well. That is what I bed fish with Quote
cdlittle Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I love me some purple! Just got a bunch of JDM jerkbaits in, all with a touch of purple on one way or another. Quote
