Hello everyone

I'm looking currently 2 options to buy on a baitcaster 6.3.1 or 8.1.1

My idea is to use with texas rig plastic workms/creatures ,  lipless cranks / minnows etc  and maybe some frogs (don't use too much but possible)

what is the recommended Gear Ratio in this case for overall use?

Is a bad idea to get a faster baitcaster?

Just my 2 cents, If you go 8:1 you can slow your retrieve down if you like, However if you go 6:3 that's as fast as you will go. Just me but I would go 8:1.

You ever think about getting a 7 speed? Its much easier to slow down with a 7 then an 8, but thats just my opinion.

Can't find this option just 6:3 or 8.1 for this specific reel

For me it's easier to slow down than speed up - so in that case I'd go with the 8...or wait until they have the 7 in stock.

Slowing down is less of a work out and than trying to crank fast to get extra speed...I'd go with what the others said and get the 8. If they have a Tatula CT in the 7.1:1 you might want to consider that. Only $20 more than the Fuego.

Ya - and it's basically the same reel...T-Wing is the only major difference between the Fuego-CT and the Tatula-CT.

Tatula CT is a bit lighter and has a couple more bearings...but they are similar.

The T-Wing system is lighter than the standard aperture system - there's the weight difference

The couple extra bearings are in the handle-knobs.

Same frame, same spool, same main gears - the Tat-CT is just an 'upgraded' Fuego-CT

To much difference between a 7.1 and 8.1?

It's not an extreme amount

7.3:1 - max IPT is 30.5

8.1:1 - max IPT is 33.9

So 3.4" per turn of the handle if you crank at the same rate with a near-full spool.

I think many (possibly most) "current" anglers fish much too fast.  6.8 is my burner...

I think so too.  Its easy to fish slow for a little while, but when your having a rough day it can be hard to stay slow.

I don't pay very much attention to my gear ratios since I'm kind of a beginner-intermediate, but like others have said, I would buy the 8.1:1, especially if you are gonna use lipless cranks.

I have a 8.1:1 Fuego on a Falcon Lowrider All Round Fast MHF rod. I set it up mainly for soft plastics as I like the ability to reel in any slack before the hookset fast.

Having said that, I have zero issues working a worm, craw, etc. slow on the bottom.

Do you use with other baits too?

I’ve thrown lipless cranks with it. To be honest, I just set this rig up a couple of weeks ago. I fish a lot of shallow ponds so most of my baits are lightweight. Maybe 1/16 or 1/8 oz bullet weight on a TR (or no weight on a 5” Senko TR). If it’s a lengthy cast and the bait gets hit quick, I want the slack in quick to prevent the bass from getting hooked deep. But once on the bottom I can work it slow. Which I can do with any bait.

I remember how confused all the information (good and bad) made me when all we had was books, magazines, a a couple of TV and radio sources. I am so glad we didn't have an InterWeb then.

Get the 6.3 or 7.1. Don't get the 8.1.
