At almost 73 yrs. and with a bad back, I stand as much as I can, might sit on a pedestal seat for a short time, definitely stand when throwing heavy swimbaits.

I don't even keep my seats in the boat.

I Ike all over the place and like the open room on the deck.

As far as being in the 60's, I'm 63  and every day its convenient I walk up a set of 244 stairs that lead to the top of a hill to the "Lighthouse"  its a thing a lot of locals do for exercise .  I do it once . One man  I know is well into his 70's , does it six times a day .  Half  the tourist in their 20's , these days , have to stop and rest or dont   finish the climb     .  The   reason I  sit half the time "fishing from a boat " is not that I'm old a feeble ,  a  severely arthritic foot and ankle  is the culprit .

I am 74 years young and have been bass fishing since I could hold a fishing rod. In my fifties, I started having pain in my back and hips when stand up fishing.  To counter this, I learned to flip sitting down. I eventually had an MRI which told me I had lumbar spinal stenosis which was pinching the nerves in my legs.  It progressed to a point where I couldn't walk more than 100 feet.   On March 1st of this year, I had surgery to remove numerous bone spurs, clean up bad discs and alleviate pressure on the nerves in my spine.  My nerve pain when standing and walking is gone and I am recovering well.   It's been a rough six weeks, but I am happy with the result.  My quality of life has significantly improved.

Don't let this happen to you.  Pay attention to your back.  All that hammering and bouncing around in a boat adds up.  Watch your weight.  When you stand all day, an extra 30-50 pounds is beating your back like a hammer.  You may think you are young and this won't happen to you.  Think again.

Didn’t have a sit down seat on my boat deck just pedestals front and back.

Now that I back seat the boats have folding rear seats that I stand and lean against for balance. I sit in the passenger seat.

I only Fish about 6 hours anymore, any longer I may sit to rest. I see better what’s in the water standing and cast more accurately after standing in boats to fish for over 65 years.

It’s tiring to fish for 6 hours at 78, the 15 hours days on the water are a memory.

Tom

15 hour days?... heck, I don't want to do anything for 15 hours!

Yep, just wait until these younger guys start suffering the pain of old age with bad hips, bad back, knees shot . Not to mention pain between the shoulder blades, neck pain etc. Then see how long they stand up. Doctor told me 10 years a that my upper spine looks like it has bark on it from all the calcium deposits on the spine~ and hey yo, don't forget, ...."Women weaken legs".

@A-Jay Decided to take your advice! Did a push-up this morning.  Good news - the doctor said I’ll be out of the ICU by next Thursday!

Seriously, Man.  I am impressed with your dedication.  Hope you keep grunting, groaning, and showing us what’s possible.

Stand most of the time. Keep the butt seat handy in case I'm in rough water I'll use it to lean on for balance.  I'm sure in a few more years sitting down will be the logical choice. Of course my dad is 60 and doesn't get around good at all but stands as much as I do when we are fishing! Like everything else I think it's just a habit type of thing. I surely don't think it has anything to do with toughness or who's a better angler. And A-Jay shows us in that pic that age definitely has nothing to do with it...quite impressive regar of age. Try both and see which "you" prefer

Sat on a nice hard round rock today on shore for 4 minutes, that's about all I sat today. Fished and hiked for 3-4 hours around the lake. Can't carry a chair. I wouldn't fish in it though from shore.

In a boat I'm good either way, but will stand unless my body says no. I took a break today before my tendinitis started to get uncomfortable, and quit for the day once it did.

On a bass boat:  I wear good shoes because I stand the entire day. My friend has never set up the pedestal Seats. I’ve never seen them

I use pond fishing as exercise. I walk a lot in the course of fishing 4-5 days a week. I also like to stand in the boat as I have a hard time casting and getting a good hook set sitting down. I do have a seat on the bow, I use it when taking a break or tying on.

I stand up, especially since I fish from shore. I am also a cross-country/track runner, so standing isn't that tiring for me.

I received a Millennium "Palma Horse" seat (B-300) today. I'm going to give it a shot.

Stand. I do lean on the butt seat from time to time when on the trolling motor. If my wife isn't with me I leave the back deck completely open. My regular fishing partner will put his butt seat on the back deck when he's with me.

63, turning 64 next month.  I stand but use a butt seat to lean against (3 points of contact) to reduce the risk of being the "man overboard" if I bump a stump. I can fish sitting but prefer not to.

For me, it usually depends what I'm fishing and how much I'm moving around. If I'm at a crowded space, I will often setup my camping chair if I'm slowly fishing something like a T-Rig, but I prefer to stand for something like a jerkbait for example.

It also depends on how my feet feel on any given day. I've been sidelined with gout a lot since last August so if that's flaring up at all, I'll tend to sit more lately than I would otherwise like to.

Track runners rise up. ?

Edit: On topic of thread, I fish a super clear manmade reservoir a lot right now and there are walls surrounding the shore that people fish from. Often, I've found sitting on the wall helps to maintain a low profile and get my rod closer to water when needed to make baits run deeper.

Yes Track needs more recognition!

I was watching an episode of Bill Dance and he recommended sitting instead of standing to fish . Which way do you fish, sit or stand?

I sit when I fish out of my small aluminum Jon boat. Mostly because I move around to much and rock the boat when I stand lol. Sitting is just more stable. My girlfriend goes out with my every fishing trip and she stands most of the time so she can cast over my head (if needed). I can cast further standing but I usually only need to cast far if im bank fishing.
