Skunkmaster-k Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I was watching an episode of Bill Dance and he recommended sitting instead of standing to fish . Which way do you fish, sit or stand? 1 Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Age, back and knees have forced me to sit most of the time now. ? 7 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 Mostly I sit. Only times I always stand is to flip/pitch. 1 Quote
fishingtx Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I'm young so I stand. I also find it easier to control my casts when I'm standing. 3 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I stand nearly 100% of the time in a boat. I sit nearly 100% of the time in my kayak. 6 3 Quote
K1500 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I sit if the fish aren’t biting much and stand if the action is fast. That means I usually sit... 5 6 Quote
Bluegillslayer Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I pretty much stand 100% of the time 1 Quote
Uncle_MC Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I almost always sit in my 1232 Jon boat. But if it was bigger, I’d stand more. 2 Quote
OCdockskipper Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Stand when fishing, stand when fighting fish, sit when landing. Similar to what @K1500 wrote, if fishing is slow & I'm dragging a dropshot around, the urge to sit while fishing is strong. 2 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I pretty much stand while fishing @Skunkmaster-k the majority of the time. I don’t “Bill Dance” fish very much yet, I use the seat with the extended post to lean on when casting or pitching/flipping. 2 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I rather stand or walk while bass fishing. At least this way I get some good exercise. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I stand about 50 percent of the time . I have a bad foot thats not very strong so the balance is not good . Its not safe for me to stand unless its calm . 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 Young at heart, so I stand. In fact, I took the pedestal seat(s) out of my rig. If I am fishing solo, I will stand in the Old Town Canoe as well. A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I stand to fish unless I need to give my back a short break. 4 Quote
GTN-NY Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Standing almost 100% of the time and I’m in a kayak and over 60 6 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 8, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 8, 2021 I stand until I just can’t anymore. Mike 3 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I'm kayak fishing in the Oklahoma wind, so I sit mostly. I've even developed a method of pitching that I can sit while doing. It's basically just roll casting with the rod a few inches above the water. It's a little harder to do without making a splash, but I can pitch it a lot further that way. But if the weather's nice, I'll stand as much as I can. If nothing else, just to stretch the old legs. 2 Quote
volzfan59 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I prefer to stand as much as possible. The years, injuries and arthritis in my knees and hips will probably have me sitting soon. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I have a pedestal bike style seat on the front deck that I use for most of the season while I'm bass or muskie fishing. Its more of a lean-to type seat rather than a chair. I have a standard height folding chair up there in the spring when I'm crappie fishing because I tend to do more bobber fishing. On the back deck, I always keep a folding chair. My Father will often go with and he's 68 so I know he likes to sit quite often. 3 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 On shore, dock, kayak, or boat: stand if possible. 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 Stand( lean hard on tall seat). 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I've always done both but now with 3 ruptured disc it's sit as much as possible. 3 Quote
Michigander Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Stand/Lean. I have tall pedestal seats on my deck. 1 Quote
