Michigander Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 If it flies off the spool and knots up, then yes. I think you're golden judging by the picture though. 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 That is why I dislike spinning reels. If I fill mine up that far, the line starts jumping off the spool after a few casts. Quote

I would expect you could run 8lb Sufix 832 or PP up to the very edge with no problem. 20lb Big Game not so much. 1 Quote

Before you ask, yes it's spooled correctly. I think it's because the line is looser on the spool after a few casts vs. when I spool it. Quote

My spinning reels get no heavier than 8lb or 6lb Trilene XL or Sufix Elite. Most of them have 8lb or 10lb Sufix 832. Quote

Keep your free hand close to the bail, even feather the line with your fingertips (like thumbing a baitcaster). Close the bail with that free hand (never crank auto-close); turn with the rod to take up all slack before you begin retrieve. Wind knots are caused by loose line at the beginning of your retrieve. I spool braid to this extreme and have never cast a wind knot: Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 I guess a lot of it is what you're use to. Last year I had 10# YZH (12# mono diameter) on my Trion-35 and had no issues. This year I'll have 10# Advance Mono on a President XT-30 and 12# InvizX on the T-35...I've already spooled them up and so far they're behaving themselves. Course I use KVD L&L without fail on any non-braid line...that could be part of it. 1 Quote
basser27 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Looks good. if you start having issues strip some line off. Slack line techniques can cause the line to bunch at the bottom of the spool so pay attention Quote

I mean, from the picture it looks good and I'm guessing it's 10-20# braid. Quote

I just cut $10 of fresh Tatsu off one of my bait casters when the line just exploded out of it when the line went slack. However, you do tend to see this much more with spinning. Quote
CrankFate Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I always start overspooled and work my way down to what works best for the reel. 1 Quote

Everyone posts that Tatsu is limp, but it's quite opposite - it's stiff and springy, and is going to be worse in larger diameters. Tatsu, Blue, both 10-lb, and 20-lb braid - taped down and held vertically 1 Quote

If wanted to go through the hassle you could take that line off add some cheap mono backing then put that line back on to get the spool filled. But no biggie really. 1 Quote
