Besides a frog, are there any baits you can fish through that nasty slimy green or black moss?  Wanting to take my daughter to this lake that has a lot of bass and are easy to catch but the problem is almost every cast ends up with that crap on your lure or fishing line.  She is just learning to throw a baitcaster.  I thought about having her fish a frog on an out I have that has a Stradic with a 7.5 ft MH JWR IMX spinning rod.  I know it’s not heavy enough generally for frogging but thought it would work for this.  But I’m also trying to find something besides a frog!in case she has trouble hooking them.

Is the moss all on the bottom? If so, a dropshot could work well. The weight will pick up the moss while your bait stays clean.

You can use a UV Speed Worm or Cut R skimmed along the top of it.
The tails of those will churn that stuff up so the fish can hone in on it.

Fairly shall pond.  It’s top to bottom.  Right now it is just on top around the bank between 2 to 5 ft out away from the bank.  Yday I had her use a floating word and senkobwith some success.  I just didn’t know if there was anything else I hadn’t thought about.

Try a Fat IKA with a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG or a Neko Macho wacky style.

Not sure how thick your moss is, but you could try a weightless fluke or weightless senko type bait.

That’s a great idea. I have the jawbreaker from Northland which is the same idea. Really, they are just alternatives to frogs but it could work

I’ve seen something like that before..forget the name of it.  I was testing out a frog yday and caught 10 in 10 minutes!  On a farm pond.

I really like buzz toads over hollow frogs, but you often have to hammer it home pretty hard to get a good hook set.  Still not so much as you do with a frog, though.

A swimbait on a 1/8th oz owner beast or similar weedless swimbait hook would work well

This is old-fashioned (but hey I am old): A Johnson silver minnow. I like the silver spoon with an Uncle Josh frog color (white with green polka dot) pork frog, black spoon with black culprit trailer (usually 7.5" with most of the head bit off) or a gold spoon with chartreuse twin tail. I really like them because you can skate them and even frog fish them on top of scum but then jiggle them and get them to drop into holes in the scum (if there are any).
