harpoon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hello all, I bought this boat this year and so far love it. I did just notice that is doesn't have any cleats on the sides of the boat. I have 4 bumpers for it but no where to tie them on. Does anyone have a boat like this? Is there a way to add cleats to a boat like this? I am taking up to a lake house for a week in NH that has a dock and am concerned of not protecting it with the bumpers. Thanks as always harpoon Quote
HPBB Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I have a starcaft SS and it didn't come with cleats either. we added them, just bought 4 of them, can get them anywhere. and I put them on the inside of the top rail. had to do a little drilling and some stainless screws and it was done. Quote
harpoon Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 Hey HPBB, thanks for the reply. you wouln't have any pics of the installed cleats would ya? This is my first boat and not very comfortable drilling into it. I did find some plastic cleats at WalMart are those what you uses? Quote
HPBB Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 might be, mine are black plasic. If your boat is close to the look of mine, and I think it is. there is a top rail ( bright alum) that runs the top of the hull. If you drill into that there is no problem of leaks, its feet above the water Line. I mounted them on the inside so that they would not interfear with my cover. sorry I don't have any pics. right now that boat is sitting at my father's house. so I can't run out and snap a pic. That is problem with haveing 3 boats. I don't have the room right now at my house. Quote
harpoon Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Hey HPBB, did you have to drill all the way through the rail and use a nut and bolt? Or did you just screw into a one side? if the latter did you need an anchor for the screw to tighten to it? did you have to use any apoxy to keep water from leaking in? Sorry for all the questions, just a bit scared to drill into the boat. Thanks alot Harpoon Quote
HPBB Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 i used just a screw( self tapping) in one side, no need to anchor and no did not need to seal the screws. they are way way above the water line. I mean if water is leaking in the screw holes then water is comming over the rails Quote
