Something to keep an eye out on - if it's too expensive, I'll pass. I already play one that's pretty much free unless you want special items...and I haven't needed any of them and consistently place in the top 5 if I pound on it all day. 2 Quote
Michigander Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Maybe I will take up video games again when I am retired... So that'll be the 2070 version, lol 2 Quote
Super User Koz Posted April 7, 2021 Super User Posted April 7, 2021 I think he also endorsed a fishing game for the PS4 that I've played. It was OK, but nothing great. The problem with these fishing video games is that once you figure out the spawn points (where they code fish to show up) it becomes boring. You just keep bringing your boat to that same spot over and over and land lunkers all day. The spawn points need to be variable based upon seasonality, weather, etc. and even then more randomization needs to be calculated. And huge fish need to be rare, just as in real life. There's no way you fish a tournament and end up with a 65+ pound bag. 2 Quote

CrankFate Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 To date, the best fishing game of all time is Red Dead Redemption 2. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 8, 2021 Super User Posted April 8, 2021 If I can do up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start to unlock all the trophy bass then I might play. LOL 4 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 8, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 8, 2021 Seriously, my favorite was “the black bass” for NES and game boy. I’ve still got it on game boy, sold the NES and all the games to a Buddy a couple years ago Quote
schplurg Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 They may not have spawn points like other games. I started designing a fishing sim a few years ago and my fish behaved like fish. Hatched wherever the fish decided to spawn, etc. And they'd be frye anyways. I do doubt they'd go the extra mile and do that for this game though. That takes time and money and like I said, it's more than ever about profit over love of the game. Dovetail Games does make sims though, so who knows. I think the game will be like most modern games where you have to shell out real cash to have much fun, which to me is the opposite of fun. I quit game design because more thought goes into how to get money from the players than goes into the actual game design. Finally, if they want people to buy it, a lot of people, they will have to dumb it down for non-anglers. Kinda like fishing for numbers tournaments vs fishing for weight. In my opinion that was done for TV. Maybe I will be wrong, I hope so. 1 Quote

I saw that the thread was closed so that’s a bummer. How far along did you get with it? Any chance you continue the work on it just for the sake of it? Quote

Bluegillslayer Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 If they make a port for switch I would buy it Quote
CrankFate Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 So I take it no one has tried RDR2. This is the best fishing game I’ve ever played. Even though fishing is just an aside in the game. You don’t get to really pick bait or spots (you can a little), but as far as video game fishing goes, it’s seriously the best video game fishing experience I know of. And no, I was never able to catch the legendary channel catfish. Quote
