Never grow up? ~ not me...

OK, I'm kind of new here (signed up about two months ago). I'm all so kind of confused about the designations each person gets in the box to the left of their post. For example to the left of this post it says that I am Bubba460 and that I am a "Minnow". It gives my location, PB bass,  says that I have made 64 posts, favorite bass, etc. I see that some people are a "Hawg', other's are a "Bucketmouth", "Big'un" and so on. I guess that has something to do with how long you've been here or how many posts you've made? Anyway, when I first started posting here I was rated as a "Row" or something along those lines and have graduated up the scale from that to ~ I can't remember them all but something along the lines of "fry", "figerling", "bottom feeder" and now I'm all the way up to "minnow". Now I'm a patient guy and It's all in fun but at this rate how long will it take me to be designated a "Leviathan"?

At some point you'll be allowed edit it to be something else - like mine is a custom one I came up with.

Well, OK ~ That's encouraging for someone who has fished for over 65 years from Florida to Alaska and has a place card at the party of "Minnow".

Why does it say "Fry” or “Minnow" under my name?
Those names are referring to the number of posts you've made on the forums. It breaks down like this:
0-10 = Fry
11-124 = Minnow
125-249 = Dink
250-499 = Short Fish
500-999 = Keeper
1000-1999 = Kicker
2000-3999 = Big 'un
4000-7999 = Hawg
8000+ = Double Digit
These are simply references for you to help identify how often a member posts messages. They are NOT status symbols. Frivolous posts designed to add to one's post count will be removed.

I always go on here on my phone and when it's held straight up and down, which it is 99% off the time, I can't even see the side bar stuff. I wonder what post count I'm at? Guess I'll know when I post this and turn it. But hey if nothing else you taught me that there arw stats when you turn the phone haha

You can change that field whenever you want by editing your profile. Your member title is the first field you'll see, under Basic Info.

Well, if it counts I'd have to say big king salmon that came into Alaska freshwater rivers from the ocean to spawn. Here is a photo of one about 30 pounds that is covered in mud. Powerful fish in a river current is a top drag tester. They run from pool to pool as they go up the rivers. If you're lucky you catch one and he stays in the pool, you're good. If he decides to leave the pool, he's gone.

Very nice salmon @Bubba 460! Salmon are one of my favorite fish to eat and would like to fish for them in a future vacation. 65 years of fishing is impressive and longer than many of us here have been alive. I can only imagine the stories you have.

"Yoked" I had to look that up. That came form 11 years as a rope and saddle tree surgeon  (climber). I'm 73 now and still look like that ~NOT

King salmon are shaped like a torpedo and have a tail the size of a trashcan lid

I teach a middle school "wildlife conservation" class. We talk about hunting and fishing all hour.

I dunno if it still is or not, but when I was in school, boater safety and hunter safety were required classes. They were taught by my seventh grade science teacher, and that's 100% what the class was. Mostly just shooting the breeze about fishing and hunting, and going over the TWRA-provided materials to prep for the proctored exam.

Consider that you're in good company here.  

This seems more like an Introductions thread than general bass fishing, but that's ok.  

 

I got excited when I saw the title, about never growing up.  

If fishing doesn't bring out the kid in you, you're not doing it right.  

The "greats" I've fished with are every one infectious, and it's their kid-like exuberance that makes them so.  

I like to group myself in that description, as well.

Yes sir, "Second star on the right and straight on til morning" I believe fishing does help to keep you young. For me it's meditation... at least until that big'un hits!

One sentence, boy that would be hard. The years go by so fast, you realize just how fast when you get up there and start to realize that you can see that final stop up ahead on the tracks of life. The past is just memories, live for today and tomorrow and try to live life the best that you can. If fishing is one of the things that brings joy into your life then make those memories as often as time will allow. For me, my wife and kids are the most important things in life, followed by health, then bass fishing~ it's part of my life. When I am unable to fish anymore a big part of me has died.
