Hey guys,

I was looking over my Daiwa tatula tonight and realized how much I love this reel and that I am probably not going to replace it any time soon. I was wondering what upgrades were available such as bearings and saw a spool speed kit. Anyone try it? Worth it?

All I do is make sure there is a normal amount of grease on the gears, and clean oil on the bearings especially the spool bearings. The only mod I do is to polish the ends of the spool shaft to a high luster using Fine DuPont polishing compound. Never tried aftermarket bearings.

A flushing of the bearings and a drop of good oil will go a long way and be much cheaper than upgrading the bearings while giving similar results.

^ I've found the difference this makes is huge on Daiwas. The stock spool bearings are pretty good too.

From what I've seen the most common upgrades are

  • Flush spool bearings and oil with TSI 321
  • Replace handle bushings with bearings (you'll have to mess with the shims)
  • Replace levelwind bushings with bearings (some people don't like bearings here since its an area that typically gets lots of water)

If you want stuff for show there's plenty of stuff too.
