Had an awesome fishing weekend here in NC. Hit up some neighborhood ponds and caught six on Saturday with a rage swimmer. Two of those around 2.5-3 lbs and no dinks. Caught four today on swim jig, rage swimmer, and one on weightless trick worm. Even tried a chatter bait and missed one so I will be adding that to my arsenal. Been catching fish on senkos and drop shot all winter but pretty sporadic and no real size. This was my first time really catching on moving baits and I am ecstatic. Feel like it was a pure reaction bite that I have read about here and watched videos about but had yet to experience. All I can say is wow! I know it won’t always be this good, but I am fired up to get back out. Too bad I’ve got a job!! Haha

Update: Got out with my boy this past Saturday and really got into them. I broke down and used some live minnows at a pond I know the bass love them. I’ve been there over the last few months and watched people catching loads of fish with them while I worked hard to catch a few on my drop shot.
We ended up with 11 bass including one around 2 lbs and one at 3.5 lbs. I hooked the biggest one and immediately handed him the rod because I could tell it was a good one. It was great seeing him all excited again and we will fish live bait again, but I didn’t get the rush I am used to getting with a lure bite. Almost felt like cheating...

Get over it...

There is nothing wrong with live bait.

On our usual vacation to the great white north, we carry good old fashioned bobber rigs on the boat as well as the usual gear. We'll cast till our arms feel like they're going to fall off, and then break out the bobber rigs. There's just something Zen about it. It gives a bit of time to recover, eat a sandwich, and relax. Although we have had moments where those bobber rigs where absolutely insane fish catching machines.

Finally figured out how to compress and upload pics. This is my boy with the 3.5 lb girl we caught on live bait. Very proud of him!

Haha, thanks. Had a pretty decent day today. 10 fish total with a 2 and 4 pounder in the mix. All but one caught on 3.8 keitech easy shiner in sungill on a 3/16 oz jig head. Tried this setup for the first time on the Colt 702 spinning rod paired with a Daiwa revros. Rod and reel handled even the 4 pounder with no issues. Super pleased to have found this combo to throw these lighter paddletails. Another productive weekend where I gained confidence in some new techniques and gear.
