So I just recently bought the Luckycraft Sammy 118 and took it for a test spin on my sister's pond, and uh...have you ever seen them just lay on their sides or upside down? I have never had a walking bait do anything like that. Bad lure?

I am using 50 lb braid with about 8-10 inches of 17lb mono as a leader.

That is not normal. Also 50lb braid and 17 lb mono way overkill for that lure. try it on a lighter setup and see what happens. 20-30lb braid and 12-15lb copoly or mono or straight braid is fine.

Never. Something must not be right without. You should exchange it. Sammys are very easy to animate. IMHO, they’re easier to walk than spooks.

No, that's not right. Try shaking it hard, if that doesn't work return it. Are you sure it's a real one, Sammy isn't the lure de jeur as it was once, but there were a lot of knock offs out there. Never seen one do that.

Yeah I bought it at Bass Pro a few weeks ago. It walks really easy, but if you stop it rolls on it's side or goes upside down.

Yeah return it. Get a new one. Sammy is my favorite wtd style bait. I

I have never had this happen.  Also One topwater seriously underrated and overlooked is the Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil.  I catch a ton of fish on it. It's different than the Sammy.  I think it has an amazing loud knocking sound, looks good and walks very easily.
