Bad spool of Spiderwire EZ braid?

Got a spool of 10 pound EZ braid for my spinning rod and noticed it would break off seemed easy. Lost a few lures but kept using it. Notice it frayed bad and I had to retie at least a few times a day. Tested the line with my fish scale and the line was breaking at 3-4 pounds every time. I use triline knot ( i think its called) and few times in the test the knot would slip. Highest pound i could get was just over 4 pound until break.

 

Tested cheap china "Gagagaijin" 10 pound braid and broke just over 11 pounds every time I tested. (4 tests) with same knots too. 

 

Always enjoyed the 20-30 pound EZ braid but sad about this. Is the 10 pound just bad in general or is it a bad spool I got?

Sufix 832 will solve your problems. Tie a Palomar knot and your good to go. Crazy glue your knot and it will never slip.

I find spiderwire has been too hit or miss the last few years.   I had the same issue with 30lbs stealth.   Would snap around the 16lbs mark.   ??‍♂️

You are certainly persistent. 

When you think the hole is deep enough, quit digging.

I no longer use any spiderwire products. All of their lines are very inconsistent. Their only plus was ,Wal-Mart always has it in stock.

Wal-Mart also carries power pro, which is a much better line than anything spiderwire makes.

You are correct, the lighter Spiderwire from Walmart can almost be described as "brittle".  I have some 50lb in my boat for emergency use on a baitcaster but it's pointless to try 10lb or lighter.  I know that good braid is expensive and I feel your pain, but if you'll go get yourself some Sufix 832 (or some folks like Power Pro) you will find a truly amazing difference in the performance.  When I use braid on spinning gear it's 8lb Sufix 832.  Baitcasters get 50 or 65lb.  Good luck.

Hitena Pureline, 21 casts like 10 of most braids.  No problems, lasts for years.  I've never had a "bad spool" of any line except the old Vanish.  But those were not "bad spools," they were just Vanish.

 

After Hitena, I recommend anything Suffix.

 

I think all of the newer 8 "carrier" braids are very good.  

 

Some will say, "boy, those are expensive lines!"  but since they last for years, are they expensive?  And, you only go around once.  Make the best of it.
