Also, does it matter where on the spool the line is when you begin reeling the line on the spool?  (Right, left middle?)

Remove your spool from the reel, then place it on the table just as the spool is placed on the table in the video below. Starting from the rod's tip, feed the fishing line through your rod's line guides. Do not feed the line either under or over the reel's bail wire. Just feed it from the rod's bottom guide over to the spool which will be standing upright on the table. Keep your setup the same as the video. Have your line coming in from the left with the spool to the right and make your first wrap counterclockwise. Watch the video as many times as needed and try to execute the knot until you've got it mastered. You can do it.

Ok, assuming we aren't being punk'd, this is NOT hard, specially on a spinning reel. So, tie a small loop on the end of the line, I suggest a surgeon's knot, but any loop knot will work. now make believe it's a dog choke collar and put it on the spool so it forms a p, THE END.

If you are having issues with the arbor knot, a 3 turn uni works just as well or better, it's what I use on BCs.

Back to my original suggestion, use a piece of electrical tape. The EASIEST thing you could possibly do.

Yeah but ive never considered a surgeon's loop for this purpose or seen it used that way. Seems like it should work ...

What loop knot is used is not important, obviously the least bulky easiest to tie makes sense. I use the perfection loop. You feed the line through the loop and place that over the spool (dog's neck) so it cinches down when pulled on while spooling.

Can you see electrical tape, it works well, no knots needed.

I'm sorry, I meant no offense, I didn't realize the issue was your sight. I would suggest you go with the uni knot for everything. It is not hard to tie with practice. I would suggest getting a spool of cheap 20 lb mono to practice. I can  put together a video of how I tie it if you'd like.

So, the guy I mentioned from Bass Pro Shop that’s been helping me out at the store took me and my wife and son out on his boat early this morning and we did something called trolling, he was dumbfounded that we didn’t catch a single fish, he said he normally catches at least a few

 

Anyway, he re-spooled my line last night at the store and straightened it using the boat.  I told him about this specific concern and he said I shouldn’t need to re-spool more than once a season and to just take it to him and he’ll take care of it.

 

He said right now work on getting comfortable with my equipment, relax and have fun

And that's just mono.

 

Depending on how often/hard you fish - you can get a couple years from a good FC or a good Hybrid, and 4+ from a quality braid.

With braid and and a leader your mainline will work for a very long time.

Otherwise, I change my line "as needed".  Generally, I go through about

100 yards per reel every month or so.

After several hours of practice and frustration with lots of light and magnification I could not get the uni knot.

 

I can tie the clinch knot with the cinch knot tying tool and even that can get frustrating at times.  For loop knots I use a double over hand, which I know is not a good knot but I use it for my split shot rig leader that I made.

 

 I have a snap swivel on my main line and if I want to switch to bait fishing from lure fishing I just hook my split shot rig leader to the swivel and I’m ready to go.
