SmokeyD Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Odd question....Ive fished for bass large small striper and everything in between, last year caught a 4-5 lber with weird color pattern, looked like largemouth below the lateral line, but above it it almost looked like the stripes of a yellow perch. Could this be a hybrid or just some genetic freak? 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted April 2, 2021 Super User Posted April 2, 2021 No, some LMBs have different coloration for several reasons. Hard to tell from the picture whether that is odd color or something external caused it. I see some bass with large black random spots. Caught one once that was almost completely black with a white belly. This time of year I see a lot of silvery bass, much like a shad, with hardly any green at all. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 2, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 2, 2021 I’ve got some weird coloration on my left shoulder blade and I’m definitely a hybrid 3 Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 2, 2021 Super User Posted April 2, 2021 Can't really tell from the photo. Looks mostly LM to me. The head looks a bit "smallmouthy" to me, but that could be the photo angle. If those are indeed bars along the sides -tough to tell in the photo- it could be a LMxSM cross. To tell you'd likely need some careful measurements. Are there both species in this water? If not, then even more unlikely. Quote
