Luke Barnes Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 I know, I know. Megastrike is the deal. But from some reading it sounds like Liquid Mayhem is formulated very similar in that it had amino acids and enzymes. The real question is has anyone used it and notice any difference over Megastrike? Amazon has liquid mayhem and I'm really trying not to use tackle warehouse because I'll want to hit that $50 free shipping mark, and I dont need anything else Quote
swhit140 Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Compare the two and see which one the fish prefer? Quote
Luke Barnes Posted March 31, 2021 Author Posted March 31, 2021 So far it seems just as good just personal preference. Quote

schplurg Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Try a blind test. Have another person put the scent on your baits so you don't know which is which. Maybe even put no scent on sometimes. Then you guys can tally up the score without any bias. I will guess that all 3 act the same. It would really take extensive testing to determine a winner. In fact it will take more testing than I've ever seen to determine whether or not scent works at all. Quote

All I can say is I have seen a couple of instances where I caught fish and co angler didn't till I had them put scent on. Hour without fish, add scent to their bait, hits almost instantly and first fish within 5 minutes. When the bite is tough it can really make a difference. If they are hitting anything within 5 feet of them you really don't need it. I fish a lot of clear water and the fish are always in a mood, so it definitely helps there. I do realize that not everyone will be convinced so I gave up trying a long time ago. To answer the OP, I really like Liquid Mayhem and have used it for years, but both being gels you really can't go wrong. I haven't used megastrike, so I can't say for sure LM works better, but I know it works very well for me. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted April 1, 2021 Super User Posted April 1, 2021 Taste them both for yourself. Whichever one tastes worse will work the best on the fish. It's a scientific fact. 1 1 Quote

Super User ChrisD46 Posted April 2, 2021 Super User Posted April 2, 2021 *I would not be opposed to trying Liquid Mayhem - but I have not seen it in fishing stores before ? That said , I like Megastrike regular scent , BANG Garlic spray , Smelly Jelly and Pro Cure scents (Craw) for bass . It's basically what I can find locally and I use all of the above with good success . It may just be a confidence thing , but I especially like to lightly spray a bag of soft plastics with the BANG garlic spray , roll the soft plastics around from the outside of the bag and let them sit over night before using the next day . For drop shot soft plastics I like to individually coat each Robo Worm with Megastrike , for football jigs with craw trailers I like to coat the trailer with Pro Cure Craw scent ... I only use scent on soft plastics that have no scent of their own added or to remove the factory smell (especially Zoom soft plastics) . I don't use scent on hard baits - but I do know guys who use Gulp spray on hard baits then make repeated cast to the same area to take advantage of the Gulp scent washing off the lure in the water column from previous casts (about every 4th ~5th cast they will re-spray the hard bait with Gulp spray and repeat) ... More than anything I suppose is figuring out which scents work for you and which scents provide the most confidence for you in bass fishing ... Hope this helps . 1 Quote

This is how I use JJ's Magic when I've got some. I haven't had any for a while, and there are bags I doped almost a year ago that, when I open them, they still stink. As far as your question @Luke Barnes, I wish I could help, but I haven't used Liquid Mayhem or Megastrike (though I did impulse-buy a tube of Megastrike Original with the TW order I made a couple days ago). As far as scents and attractants on the whole...¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The worst they'll do is nothing, and, at the very least, they'll probably help cover up your scent and whatever scents are imparted to soft plastics by the manufacturing process (looking at you, Zoom). I like that the gels (at least Megastrike, but probably also Liquid Mayhem) can be used on both plastisol- and TPE-based soft plastics. And the gels carry far less risk of unpleasant surprises in your tackle bag than something like JJ's Magic. You do not want to chance that cap coming loose or venting. Give it a shot, dude. Quote

I keep my JJs at home!! Haha. Ive got Bang spray that ive sprayed in a bag of gulp minnows that were getting dry but not tried a whole bag of something else. Will bang eat Elaztech if left on? I'm just getting tired of re spraying every few casts and I can only find pro cure local so if i have to order it, the sky is the limit and I want to know my options. Quote

Atlas Mikes and Liquid Mayhem worked very well and it seemed that Pro Cure repelled the fish lol. So Pro Cure is one I wouldn't recommend, but Atlas Mikes is one I used for years as well, especially the Gel Craw scent. 51 minutes ago, galyonj said: I like that the gels (at least Megastrike, but probably also Liquid Mayhem) can be used on both plastisol- and TPE-based soft plastics. Liquid Mayhem also works just fine with Zman baits. They also removed the red from the formula so the only color is the natural stuff they put in it. I know many didn't like the red because it stained stuff it came in contact with. Only stores with old stock should have the tubes with the red. 1 Quote

The other day I threw away a bottle I found on my tackle/ammo shelf that I know was about half-full when I put it up there a few months ago. The idea that it'd just dissipate out of a sealed jar in a room that's never seen higher than 75 degrees is...slightly annoying. I have zero experience with Bang, sorry. Honestly, I still plan to use this tube of Megastrike the same way I used JJ's. Squeeze some into the bag with the plastics, then mush all the plastics around in it and just leave them to marinate. Pro-Cure's got its diehard fans, too (such as Ned himself); and it can also be used on plastisol and TPE-based soft plastics. Maybe give it a shot if it's easy to get locally. Super User Cgolf Posted April 2, 2021 Super User Posted April 2, 2021 One thing I don't recommend is the spike it color dips with scent. The scent was so strong that I pitched the bottles and the baits. I practically gagged on the scent. Who knows it might have worked, but I wouldn't have stored the baits in the house lol. Maybe JJ's is like that. Quote

Not a great picture but the red is an old bottle of Shad, and the Brown is the Anise Craw. I go back and forth on the red being removed. Sometimes I thought a spot of red was nice to have, but it is messy if you get it on you. Didn't impact the catch rate though, the Anise craw has been my lake go to fishing around reed beds. 1 1 Quote

But its extremely local as in a mile away. I wish they had other brands of gel though. Quote

Swamp Rat Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Megastrike...but I also put some in the palm of my hands and rub...this will eliminate your human smell on ANY bait, hard or soft plastic, that you touch. I've been using Megastrike for YEARS... Quote
