ajschn06 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Does anyone have much experience with this particular jig? I've been looking for an all-purpose type jig that's available in 5/16 oz- this is one of the only ones I've found. Everything looks great, but worried about missing/losing fish due to the substantially smaller hook. Quote

Never used that jig but I have used the siebert sniper jig in the 5/16th ounce and they are great for both grass and wood and they come with a pretty heavy wire hook actually. I just buy the jig heads from them and put my own skirts on 1 Quote

galyonj Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 I've never used anything from Dirty Jigs, but from what I can find it uses a 4/0 hook. Are you worried about missing fish or the hook not being able to take the abuse? Quote

Are you worried about missing fish or the hook not being able to take the abuse? The hook is plenty stout so I'm not worried about that. More concerned about missing fish, or not being able to get them hooked real good... If it's a 4/0, it's a small 4/0. All of the Siebert's jigs I have are 4/0 and none of them are close to being this short... Quote
galyonj Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 That does look like a pretty short shank. I'm a believer in trimming skirts in any case, but I definitely would trim that one. Quote
Bass Rutten Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 It’s a fine jig, I use them without issue. I “tune up” every jig before using, thin and trim both the skirt and weed guard and don’t miss many. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Dirty Jigs makes quality stuff so I wouldn't hesitate! 1 Quote
RDB Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 About 60% of my jig boxes are Dirty jigs. I use the compact flippin’ as well as their regular finesse and football finesse jigs and they are all outstanding. If you want a smaller profile, all of these jigs work great...keeping them pinned is not a problem. They also make excellent replacement skirts if you want to switch things up. 2 Quote

00bullitt Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 My experience is with the 1/2 ounce version. No issues at all, but I have since switched to the Molix Kento Jig. Dirty Jigs stuff is first rate. You mentioned 5/16 oz. I don't think that is an option for the Compact Flipping Jig. Why 5/16oz for a flipping jig and not a finesse jig? Quote

Why 5/16oz for a flipping jig and not a finesse jig? 5/16 is an option on the compact flipping jig. Don’t like fishing a 3/8 oz jig but want something heavier than 1/4. Not a fan of the finesse cut skirts and want something with a stout hook. Quote

I was referring to the Compact Pitching Jig; not the Compact Flipping Jig. I have zero experience using the Compact Flipping Jig. I went to the Dirty Jigs website to see what weights were offered and realized I got them mixed up. Quote

No worries- Id imagine the hooks are about the same size so your experience helped me all the same Quote

I’m confused on which one you are looking at but I have used both and didn’t notice a performance difference. The Canterbury Compact Flippin’ comes in a 5/16, the Clausen Compact Pitchin’ comes in 3/8. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dirty_Jigs_Scott_Canterbury_Compact_Flippin_Jig/descpage-DJSCC.html https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dirty_Jigs_Luke_Clausen_Compact_Pitchin_Jig/descpage-DJLCC.html 1 Quote

I do wish the skirts with heavy fleck like the GP red werent as stiff, but the quality of the straight colors like black and blue, spanish craw and colors with less fleck like wild craw is great. Best kept secret in jigs and all for $3.49 each (or $3.99 on TW). The Green Pumpkin Chartreuse is my go to. Once I trim the skirt, the chartreuse all but disappears and its a nice compact profile that skips like a dream! Like that Tiger Porpora too. For me....everything about that jig is perfect. I even strip the skirts and use the head on a Yamamoto Hula Grub for a more finesse approach. Absolutely love the Molix GT Football Jig too!!! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 1, 2021 Global Moderator Posted April 1, 2021 I pour my own compact flipping jig in a 5/16oz and it does just fine hooking fish but I can put a bigger hook on them if I want too. Quote
