Homemade reefs?

I have an old artificial tree and thought about some quickcrete and plant buckets to make some reefs.  Anyone know if it will hurt the lake?

Dunno about artificial trees - but check your state's regulations...some states (like mine) prohibit introducing anything to a body of water unless licensed/supervised by the DNR.

My daughter and son in law have a decent sized private detention pond behind their house.  It's probably about 15 acres and is basically an oval shaped bowl.  Every year he puts the Christmas tree on the ice about 30 feet from the shoreline.  Every summer we catch good sized bass from the tree.

there are all kinds of plastic artificial fish habitats sold that are completely legal depending on your local and/or state regulations. in my state, no problem, and i’ve constructed and sank some myself.

The easiest places to contact for details would be the state DNR and/or Corps of Engineers if it's one of their lakes.

On COE lakes you are supposed to obtain a permit.

Bad idea - your fake Christmas tree is going to fall apart as soon as the wire in the tree rusts apart and releases all that plastic everywhere.

 

The best fish attracters are 5 gallon buckets with sprinkler tubing (cause it cheap) as it lasts forever and doesn't snag your lures like a real Christmas tree or anything natural does.

 

You do have to check your states laws on where you put them as states differ.
