Besides the wilderness systems cart what are some other carts that work well with it. Don’t always need a cart so a cheaper option  would be nice.

I have a C-Tug for my Jackson Mayfly. Kinda pricey but one of the best accessories I've bought for my kayak.

There are surely thousands of plans to build PVC carts with 5/8" threaded round stock and Harbor Freight hand truck wheels.  My latest 1 has tandem axles, and I use non-threaded axles.  I have another based on the one Palmetto Kayak Fishing blogged about (that one's probably 7-8 years old, not sure he's still posting).  You'll have a little time in it, but these work almost as well as a C-tug or similar and cost a good bit less.

I have a few carts, one homemade deal even. I use my Hobie cart with the Compass and a C-tug for the other boats.

Made this. Used 5/8 copper tube for the axle, pipe foam for the rails, glued most of the PVC, used clips to hold the rest together. The kickstand thing could be better.  Harbor freight has many types of wheels in stock for $10 or less. Use a strap to keep it fastened to the yak.

 

Fits my Wilderness Systems Ride 115 perfectly and I can bounce it around all over. And it fits in my front hatch. Comes apart in less than a minute.

I never liked the way my 127 laid on my C-Tug so went with the Wilderness.  I know you don't want to spend that much.........but.

I've read that about the C Tug and SS127, May just make a home made one for now and than pick up the Wilderness down the road.

What size Pvc is that? Looks beefier than most builds I've seen which I like. It's looks taller than most I've seen, nice with the extra cross member.

One inch PVC with a 5/8 copper tube axle, mainly because it was all I could find local that would fit the wheel bearings.

 

I can't imagine this thing holding together without the second crossbar. If you make the rails the right distance apart you shouldn't get much outward force trying to split them. Maybe even slightly inward due to curvature of the hull.

 

I should have used foam rubber pipe insulation instead of just foam. Still works though.

 

I think maybe the kickstand should face to the rear rather than forward so I don't spear anything on the ground. It comes apart but it's hard for me to reach. I'll pull the cart backward next time and try it.

My Stab at it,, came out ok. Hopefully axle isn’t to wide . It’s 36”. Will cut down if necessary.

What is the long pipe perpendicular to the axle for?

Kickstand , pivot point to hold stand in place while lifting kayak onto it. It is angled up a tick to give more clearance , just haven’t cut to length yet.

I would just leave slip fitted so I could pull it out once the boat is strapped in to the boat.

Nah, It’s not in the way at all and is pointed towards back of boat . Once I’m strapped in it’s to the water or truck and that’s it, no need for me

to take it off . But sure I can see why some would do it that way.

Had someone at the ramp with a ss127 want to try out my ctug before he bought one. It kept slipping off the pads. It just wouldn’t work right. 
I’ve built 3 pvc carts. Two broke right away using 1” pipe. My Big Rig is heavy. I went up to 1 1/4” or 1 1/2” and it hasn’t broke yet but it creaks and groans. That’s why I bought the ctug.

I’ve heard that about the c tug and ss127. This is 1”. We’ll see how it goes . If I have to bump up to 1 1/4 or 1/2 it’s 15 bucks.. others have built out of 1inch with ss127 .. your big rig weighs in a bit more than a ss127 I think?

Axle is pretty wide, however most of the pressure is on the end caps where the end of the axle comes out. I made mine as narrow as I could.

 

I don't like the kickstands. It doesn't really get in the way, but I dunno, I'd like a cleaner solution. but it does work, so can't argue with that!

 

I don't feel like mine is close to breaking. Hard to tell of course, but I ran all over the property with it and jumped it over ruts and so far so good. I almost used aluminum, but one step at a time.

85lbs empty then all my stuff. End of day it feels 150 lbs
