I just had a guy put line on my reels and I'm having a problem with one of them. It's a light spinning reel that I had 10lb braid put on. When I was setting it up, no matter how much I tightened down the drag I couldn't stop.line from coming off. I took the reel apart and the drag worked fine. Then I noticed the line was spinning off the spool.when I would pull on it. I thought maybe the spool was broke. I took all the line off and the spool is fine. Why would that be happening and what is the solution?

I usually fill about half the spool with compatible line size with monofilament first and then tie the mono-braid.

Braid will 'spin' on a spool. Fix is to either put some mono backing on it or use a small piece of electrical tape on top of the arbor knot to prevent slippage.

Braid slips if there's no retainer or backer. Take the line off, put on 25 feet of mono for backer and respool you line. Alternately, cover the arbor with electrical tape. Either way, the center of the line on the arbor will then not slip.                 jj
