How many turns on a double uni knot do you guys prefer? I also use the improved clinch knot and would like to know how many turns on that as well thanks.

Only time I use a double-uni is backing to mainline. I try to have the line diameters close to each other. 5-7 turns, less for thinner lines, more for thicker.

When I used leaders I always did 6 up to 12 lb line. Anything over I used 4.

I don’t use the double uni but for the improved clinch knot, the standard is five wraps. If I think the line might, like with a new braid that feels slick, I might add 2-3 wraps.

Well, many years ago my dad always told me 7 wraps for an IC. I think most use 5-6 wraps. I still use 7 for 6, 8, 10 and 12 lb mono. Never had a problem.

I think you have that backwards. Thinner lines require more wraps.

If I get close enough to the backing to make a change necessary, I'll do that...but as it's the backing to mainline, I think I'm safe for now.

5-7 for mono and fluoro in 6-12# test.  Less for thicker lines (which I almost never use).  10-12 for 6-8# braid and 7-10 for thicker braid.

It's not important for backing, I was commenting on mainline to leader.

I use the FG there...

I also only use a double uni for tying a leader onto braid mainline. When I pull the two knots together I want them to be the same size so the diameter of each line dictates how many wraps of each. Normally this means 3 wraps for the leader and 6-7 wraps for the mainline.

On the uni to uni knot with 10# braid to 8# fluoro I wrap 14 on the braid and 6 on the fluoro . The double uni with 20# fluoro I use 4 wraps. I’ve heard that more than 3 weakens the knot but can’t prove that by breaking them against each other .

Doubled , not double

I like the uni-uni on lines of the same or at least similar diameters. With mono, more turns for lighter lines 7 for 4-6 lb, 6 for 8-12lb, 5 for 15-20lb, and 4 for 30 and up. When joining mono to braid, a couple of less turns on the mono than above, and 9 turns on braid.

It depends on the situation.  If they are schooling, I may tie 2 half hitches and leave a foot long tag ?.

For double uni knot I like to use 5-7 turns on both sides. It is my favorite knot to use for leaders since it is easy to tie, strong, and a reliable knot.

It all depend on the line and its dia.  The thinner it is the more turns you need.  For 15-20 lb braid to 10-12 FC or Mono 7-8 turns for braid and 5-6 for the leader.

Using 20# 832, with 8#-10# mono, 5 wraps on mono, 8 on braid.
