So guys I’ve decided I’m gonna try this drop shot thing with 14 pound sniper and a 3 power dobyns casting rod. Any knot tips or ideas on how to tie this thing and make it easy for a beginner would be fantastic. I typed power shot in the search bar nothing popped up so I’m kinda clueless cause I’m not really a finesse fisherman

I fish a “power shot” all the time with a variety of line sizes. I’ll throw 30lbs braid to a 12lbs mono leader on a medium baitcaster with a finesse worm Texas rigged on a light wire hook, I’ll use 17lbs leader on a MH with a normal wire gami ewg and a bigger worm or creature, and I’ll use 65lbs braid straight on a flipping stick with a heavy wire hook and a 1-2oz weight to punch grass. When I’m fishing a dropshot on a baitcaster I generally like a shorter lead between the hook and weight, 6-12” usually. Especially short when I’m punching. Even on my light setup I’ll use usually a 1/2 or 3/8 oz weight to help get through the cover. I always tie a palmar knot and then run the line through the bottom of the eye one more time so the hook stands straight up and down on the line. Any time I’m power shotting I use tie on tungsten weights so I don’t loose them. I’m almost always using a 5-7” straight tail worm but you can use anything, I’ve had some great days with both a fluke and a swimbait on this rig.

So I’m guessing just a regular Palomar with a long tag end should do the trick? I plan on using this bank fishing. Bottom of pond is full of muck not to mention there’s some grass

I've used a baitcaster for drop shotting with mixed feelings.  If you've ever used a C-Rig, casting is very similar. I used a M/Mod Fast 7'3" rod and weights ranged from 1/4oz. to 3/8oz.  I use SpinShot hooks to avoid dealing with the log tag end of a Palomar knot.  The extra knot has never been a problem and most of the line twist is avoided.  I also like the fact that I can use a lighter test drop line vs. the main line.  If I get hung it will break first.

I think this is pretty spot on.  I typically use 15 lb fluoro but will go to 20+ in heavy cover.  3/8 is my most frequent weight unless punching or heavy wind and 2/0-4/0 hook depending on bait size.  Like @Ogandrews, I most commonly use a 6 1/2-7” straight tail or cut tail worm, same knot, and leader length dependent on distance from the boat (shorter for close range and longer for further away to compensate for line angle).

Yes, it's that simple.

Palomar with a long tag is all I do.

I’ll be casting from the bank. Set it up tonight with a 1/4 oz weight as the water I’m fishing is less than ten foot. 2/0 Gammy ewg and about 8 inch seperation from the hook to the weight cause it’s all fairly shallow

Hopefully this all works right. The bottom is muck and grass so this should do an excellent job of keeping the bait up
