basser27 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 How many wraps do you guys use when attaching 10lb power pro to 8-10lb mono/fluoro leader? I’ve always used 7 up and 7 down on 15-50lb braid with no issues. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 On lighter line I add a few turns up to 10. 1 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 7 up, 7 down on the modified Albright. Quote
Vilas15 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 I use 5 or 6 wraps for 15 lb braid to 8 or 10 lb leader. Quote
Craig P Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 7 up and 7 down, regardless of braid or leader weight. Knock on wood but I have never had a failure. 1 Quote
EzyEric Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 6 to 7 for heavy braid. 8 or 9 for light braid. Quote
Blacktail 8541 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 7 up and 3 down has never failed me. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 7 as well. Sometimes 8 or 9 for really light braid. Quote
Vilas15 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Well apparently I'm doing it wrong since I'm the only one who does less than 7. I've only had it pull through one time and that was years ago when I was first learning it. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 10 up and I lose count down. It comes loose sometimes but I suspect I clip the tags end way to close. Quote
Boulderman Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 7 up and 7 back, and one or two overhand knots with the braid tag then clip. Quote

The knot was used out west for tuna fishing with 4 wraps long before becoming crazy... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 6-8 each way for me. Any more and I'm not using a leader. Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 When I first learned the knot, I saw 5 up 5 down as the recommended wraps. However, Alberto Knie, who invented the knot over 25 years ago has a video out where he ties with 7 up 7 down, so that is probably why 7 and 7 is so popular. It's what I use the most when tying, though lately I've been playing with the Shin knot ("lazy Alberto"), a somewhat similar knot, with good success. FG is about the only other connecting knot I tie regularly. Just depends on what lines I'm connecting and for what species. Quote
waymont Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Is this the knot also referred to as the Crazy Alberto, and RP knot? Quote

Super User Darren. Posted March 24, 2021 Super User Posted March 24, 2021 My wraps have varied, but typical is 7 + 7, thinner diameter leader, perhaps a few more wraps. Thicker, less. But I've also been a big fan of Shin Fukae's variant, as mentioned by @Team9nine... Quote
