I see that they are having a sale on their x-ray blanks. Would anyone have a recommendation on which blank to buy if I’m interested in building one for the purpose of being a spybait/finesse spinning rod?

I have a MB-733 that I built for finesse with a Vanford reel. I'm right down I-75 from you, do you have any really good fishing holes that might tempt me to come there and let you handle my MB-733, haha.

Ha, as I’m sure you’re aware, NW ohio lacks for fishing spots, probably would be better if I headed your direction. I’m torn between the mb733 and the sj732

I'm not saying "don't", but I have three X-rays and I wouldn't even consider a fourth if I was building a Spybait rod. Finesse jigs, sure, but not Spybait, or really any kind of moving bait.

I would see if the Rodhouse website has both of those rods in their rod deflection comparison chart so you can see how they measure up. I use the MB-733 for finesse stuff like Ned Rigs, but it's not the best at casting the lighter stuff, I wish it had a little more flex in the tip. Finesse Jigs like the Bitsy Bug would probably be really good on it.

If I remember right the spybait has small treble, I myself would probably go Delta for that. If you go the other way concern yourself with the proper power not to pull hooks under load over tip action.
